Nintendo revealed on Wednesday the Nintendo Direct launch will take place on April 2 at 2 pm UK time and 6 am PST. The company is yet to announce further details on how long the event will take and which platforms it will air on. Gamers have presumed the live launch will air simultaneously on the company’s Twitch and Youtube channels.
Nintendo commented that the upcoming showcase will offer a closer look at Nintendo Switch 2. Gamers revealed they anticipated the Nintendo Direct, which would provide a closer look at the system’s software, price point, and launch date.
They also noted the company could reveal more about the Joy-Con’s rumored mouse functionality. Players identified a C-button on the Joy-Cons in last month’s trailer and anticipate more information about it in the upcoming Direct. Gamers also expect to know more about the games on Switch 2 after the Mario Kart title and Donkey Kong confirmation last month.
In the official trailer, Nintendo revealed that Nintendo Switch 2 plays both physical and digital Nintendo Switch games. Nintendo also warned users that certain Switch games may not be supported or fully compatible with Nintendo Switch 2. The gaming company added that more details would be shared on the Nintendo website at a later date.

Furukawa confirmed that titles such as Pokemon Legends Z-A and Metroid Prime 4 Beyond would be available for Nintendo Switch in 2025. He added the company aimed to ensure a smooth transition between the two platforms before Switch’s successor launched.
Nintendo also announced that Switch 2 would be available to play on April 11 to 13 in London and May 10 to 11 in Melbourne. The company also announced a worldwide, hands-on tour to allow the public to try the new console ahead of the launch. It added that the dates would run from early April, shortly after Switch 2 Nintendo Direct, to early June.
Nintendo reveals timelines for Switch 2 hands-on experience
Nintendo revealed that players could access the Nintendo Switch 2 experience website to get hands-on experience with the hardware once tickets go live. The company announced the tickets would be made available through a free-to-enter randomly selected draw.
Nintendo encouraged gamers to enter the draw at any time during the registration period for a chance to attend. Registrations for the London event were open from January 17 to January 26 at 11:59 UK time.
The company also issued limitations, including requiring all ticket holders to possess a Nintendo account and that groups have a Nintendo account linked to the same family group. It added that gamers can register on their own or as a group of six.
Nintendo added that gamers must be at least 18 years old to participate in the draw, and if a sixteen-year-old wants to participate, a parent or guardian can create a Nintendo account for a child.
After Nintendo’s timeline announcement, EA CEO Andrew Wilson discussed the company’s plans for Switch 2. The CEO named franchises the company expected to find on the new console. He noted that products such as EA Sports FC and Madden had found energy on Switch.
He added that he anticipated the products would receive similar interest after the console launches. Wilson added that the console presented a new opportunity for the company, given the success titles such as The Sims and MySims: Cozy Bundle have experienced in the past.
