NIOBE Anime From Stranger Comics in the Works Tai Gooden | usagoldmines.com

Comic writer and creator Sebastian A. Jones is expanding The Untamed, his beloved graphic novel series from his Stranger Comics imprint, universe in more ways than one. For the uninitiated, the original book introduced the fantasy world of Asunda and The Stranger, who has made an unholy and deadly deal with dark forces. He must collect the seven souls who killed his family in seven days or things will not end well for him.

Along the way, he meets Niobe Atuyami, a young Black heroine who is half-tribal elf, half-human, part angel, and part demon. Her presence and story were so powerful that she got her own successful comic series. The Untamed: A Sinner’s Prayer is getting a film adaptation, thanks to a collaboration with Viola Davis and Julius Tennon’s JuVee Productions. And Niobe’s journey will take on a new life in an upcoming anime series with Mollo Animation, with a trailer coming VERY soon. We have a special first-look at the animation style and vibrancy that viewers can expect.

This project came to life after discovering he had African fans from artist Tehani Farr, whom Jones collaborated with for Niobe: She Tribe. Jones teamed up with actress Thuso Mbedu to craft that story. Farr told him that when she went to Comic Con Africa, people recognized her cover work.

“She put me in touch with the organizers and they flew me out to Comic Con Africa and Thuso happened to be there at the time,” Jones told Nerdist in an interview. “We met up there, we went on stage and we celebrated Niobe: She Tribe. It was surreal. Later, I went back for Comic Con Cape Town and I met [animator and director] Lola Aikins, whom I started talking to about animation. I said I was going to make a Niobe anime and I wanted to have a voice from South Africa within this anime landscape. And Stranger Comics started working with Lola, Marthinus [Van Rooyen], and a bunch of people at Mollo Animation.”

Jones revealed that the Niobe anime’s first trailer will drop on March 21 during StrangerCon. A live stream of the event will be ongoing from 10AM-6PM PST, with the Niobe sizzle set to stun audiences at 12PM PST. This anime will be directed by Marthinus Van Rooyen, Lola Aikins, and Jones himself, who is its writer as well. The sneak peek sizzle will not only get fans hype about the next evolution of Niobe, but it also serves as a celebration for an exciting new campaign. Fans of The Untamed universe will be able to lend their support via Kickstarter to Jones and Stranger Comics to produce the imprint’s first ever Omnibus, Tales of Asunda Tome Vol. 1. It will be a deluxe oversized hardcover graphic novel with 9 comic one-shot issues, art galleries, prose, songs, and more.
