For most of us PlayStation kids, the one game that may have gotten us to switch to the fancy new Microsoft offering, the Xbox, was the futuristic first person shooter, Halo: Combat Evolved. I would go play that game at friends’ houses and would die instantly. I hadn’t played the game before and didn’t know the controls. Don’t get mad at me. Halo and its sequels became a juggernaut gaming franchise that has lasted a quarter century. It even got a TV adaptation. And to commemorate the glory, Halo Studios has announced a ground-up remake of the original campaign using Unreal Engine 5. Best news for me? It’ll be available on the PlayStation 5.
Announced during Halo World Championships 2025, the very first campaign with Master Chief’s first foray to the ring world has never looked better. Halo: Campaign Evolved will come our way next year.
“Halo: Campaign Evolved is a faithful yet modernized remake of Halo: Combat Evolved’s campaign, rebuilt from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5. Play the legendary story with upgraded visuals, refined controls, two-player split-screen (console only), up to four-player online co-op with cross-play and cross-progression, three new missions, and an expanded arsenal of weapons, vehicles, and new enemies.”
Accompanying the news is a roundtable discussion (which provides our first look at the pre-release build). Executive Producer, Damon Conn; Creative Director, Max Szlagor, and Game Director, Greg Hermann discuss bringing a beloved classic back for the modern age.
Halo: Campaign Evolved is coming in 2026 to Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Steam, PlayStation 5, supports Xbox Cloud Gaming and Xbox Play Anywhere and arrives day one with Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.
