We’ve had teasers and trailers and even some songs. But at last, we have our first actual scene fromThe Vampire Lestat. In the clip released during IGN Fan Fest, we see how Lestat de Lioncourt (Sam Reid) finds out that his former lover and undead fledgling, Louis (Jacob Anderson) has given an interview to a mortal. An interview that’s now passing as a “novel.” This interview reveals all of their species’ secrets, and also makes Lestat look like a villain of epic proportions. Lestat, as you can imagine, is not happy to find Interview with the Vampire by Daniel Molloy on bookshelves. You can watch this all play out in the first full 3-minute The Vampire Lestat clip below:
This The Vampire Lestat clip echoes the opening scenes of Anne Rice’s 1985 novel, The Vampire Lestat. Although, of course, some changes have been made for television. Lestat is in contact with Louis in the modern day, for example. In the novels, this doesn’t happen until after he discovers Interview with the Vampire has been published. Also, Lestat is living in Montreal in The Vampire Lestat series, instead of in New Orleans. But his anger about Louis besmirching his name in a book, and the garage band living near him with the name Satan’s Night Out? All of that is straight from the novel. We have a feeling that the scenes of Lestat and Louis with their lawyers from the trailers mean Lestat is about to sue Louis for defamation.
Of course, in this The Vampire Lestat clip, Lestat also doesn’t like that readers have taken to his old rival for Louis’ affection, Armand. That probably sets him off more than anything else. We’re sure that Armand outshining him to readers will go over great when these two meet again in The Vampire Lestat. We expect the cutting remarks between Armand (Assad Zaman) and Lestat to be on the level of an ’80s Dynasty episode. With the new trailer, we have a release month for The Vampire Lestat, which will officially arrive on AMC in June… Just in time for Pride Month.
