Dune: Part Three will release in theaters on December 26, 2025. While that’s a lot of time to wait for more new Dune, we’re already getting tantalizing hints of what’s to come. For one thing, Rebecca Ferguson, who plays Dune’s Lady Jessica, just confirmed that she and Lady Jessica WILL be in Dune: Part Three. That’s exciting news for Dune fans and for fans of the brilliant actress. While Lady Jessica is just barely in Dune: Messiah, Frank Herbert’s second Dune novel and the source material for the third movie, Ferguson hints that director Denis Villeneuve had a brilliant idea on how to include her character in the third Dune movie… If only for a moment. Here’s what Rebecca Ferguson had to say about Lady Jessica’s appearance in Dune: Part Three.
Rebecca Ferguson’s Lady Jessica Will Return in Dune: Part Three
Speaking to IndieWire, Ferguson confirmed that she had already filmed her part in Dune: Part Three. She offered, “I don’t have a big part in this one, [she’s] just barely in the book. I’m not sure I was supposed to be in it and Denis had a little idea… The script is phenomenal. It’s really hard to create a film, it’s such a dense book. There’s so much to tell. [Denis] does dip in and out and he does try and he does want to have certain connections and tentacles to the book. Whatever Denis touches I think is phenomenal.”
Was Lady Jessica in Dune: Messiah?
What a mysterious tease. We bet Denis Villeneuve’s little idea will yield big results. In Dune: Messiah, the novel, Lady Jessica actually never appears on screen. She is only mentioned once in the text, where the book notes that she has returned to the Atreides’ ancestral home, Caladan. There are some implications that she returned to the Sisterhood after the death of Duke Leto. And additionally, it seems that she acts as Paul Atreides’ distant counselor. There is also some implication that she and Gurney Halleck, the Atreides Weapons Master, have become lovers. It is to soon to tell whether Denis Villeneuve will bring to life all, some, or none of these hints of Lady Jessica in Dune: Messiah. But that is the fun of adaptations.
More About Dune: Part Three
As mentioned, Dune: Part Three will release in theaters on December 26, 2025. It will adapt Frank Herbert’s Dune: Messiah and see Timothée Chalamet return as Paul Atreides, Zendaya return as Chani, Florence Pugh return as Princess Irulan, Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho, and Anya Taylor-Joy return as Paul’s sister Alia. Now, of course, we know that Dune: Part Three will also feature the return of Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica. Denis Villeneuve will, of course, be back as the movie’s director.
We can’t wait to see what’s in store.
