Sensitive Data of 2,697,540 Americans at Risk As Benefits Administrator Hit by Major Data Breach Rhodilee Jean Dolor | usagoldmines.com

A Washington-based employee benefits administrator has suffered a security breach and placed the data of 2,697,540 Americans at risk.

In a notice of security incident shared with the Office of the Maine Attorney General on March 18th, Navia Benefit Solutions says that it discovered a suspicious activity in its network on January 23rd.

After launching an investigation, the firm determined that between December 22nd and January 15th, an unauthorized party accessed and acquired from its system certain personal data, which include names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, phone numbers and email addresses. The firm says health plan details may have also been exposed.

“Where potentially impacted, health plan refers only to participation in Health Reimbursement Arrangements (HRAs) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs), or Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA). Additionally, potentially impacted data points are limited to items such as termination date and election date. No claims or financial data were disclosed.”

Navia Benefit Solutions tells those affected by the breach to be vigilant against incidents of identity theft and fraud, urging them to review their account statements and credit reports for suspicious activities and errors. It says it is also taking action so a similar incident will not happen again.

“While we have measures in place to protect information in our care, as part of our ongoing commitment to the privacy of information, we continue to review our policies, procedures and processes related to the storage and access of personal information to reduce the likelihood of a similar future event. Federal law enforcement was notified, and we will also notify applicable regulatory authorities as necessary.”

The company is offering impacted individuals with complimentary identity theft protection services which will be provided by the financial and risk advisory firm Kroll for 12 months.
