Sling TV’s Day Passes win a reprieve after Disney’s court loss | usagoldmines.com

ESPN for $5 a day will continue to be a thing—at least for now—following Disney’s failed bid to block Sling TV’s Day Pass subscriptions.

A federal judge has denied Disney’s motion for a preliminary injunction against Sling TV, with the judge ruling that Disney’s lawsuit against the live TV streamer was unlikely to prevail in a courtroom, Variety reports.

Sling TV is still facing another lawsuit against Warner Bros. Discovery—which, like Disney, is arguing that Sling TV breached its contract by rolling out its Day Passes without warning the studio first.

To celebrate its legal win, Sling TV is now offering its Orange Day Pass for just $1 until the end of the month.

While Disney’s lawsuit against Sling TV is still active, the judge presiding over the case cast serious doubt whether the legal action would ultimately succeed, noting in his ruling that Disney’s contact with Sling never specified a minimum length for its subscription services.

Disney, for its part, vowed to press on with its lawsuit, telling Variety in a statement that “we look forward to vindicating our position at trial.”

The dispute revolves around Sling TV’s recently launched Day Passes, which gives users 24 hours of access to Sling Orange, a channel package that includes ESPN and ESPN2. There’s also a Weekend Pass for $9.99, while a one-week pass goes for $14.99.

Sling Orange (which also includes CNN, TBS, TNT, HGTV, and about two-dozen other channels) normally costs $45.99 a month.

Sling’s Day Passes are a terrific way to tune in to ESPN for a single day, perfect for grabbing a Monday Night Football matchup without shelling out $30 for the new ESPN streaming service.

Of course, that’s precisely what ESPN owner Disney is worried about, which makes its move to block Sling’s Day Passes unsurprising.
