Squid Game is coming back for its final round. The show’s third season will be its last. Who will ultimately survive? Who will go home a winner? That is if anyones wins or even gets to go home… We don’t know, but we now know when we’ll find out. Netflix has announced Squid Game season three will premiere this summer on June 27, 2025. And the streaming site celebrated the news of its hit series’ upcoming return by sharing the first-images from its last level.
The most successful non-English language series in the history of Netflix is getting ready to say goodbye. The question is which characters won’t be around for its final farewell. The first images from season three don’t have us feeling optimistic about anyone making it to the end. How can we be hopeful when this batch of photos include players huddled around a coffin decorated with a pink bow and Gi-hun handcuffed to a table as though Jigsaw is now running the game.
The most chilling image, though, might come from a new season three poster. It features a pink guard dragging a bloody player towards one of those coffins along a swirling flower-pattern floor Netflix says “ominously foreshadows the cutthroat finale to come.” And yes, those are the silhouettes of Young-hee and Cheol-su, which season two’s post-credits scenes teased.
What should we expect when the show returns? Here’s Squid Game‘s season three’s official synopsis:
Picking up where the second season left off, Season 3 explores the choices Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) will make amidst overwhelming despair. As the Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) plots his next move, the surviving players find their decisions leading to increasingly dire consequences with each round of the deadly games. This season promises to push the limits of suspense and drama, keeping viewers glued to the action.
Director, writer, and executive producer Hwang Dong-hyuk also shared a letter with fans about the upcoming end to his smash hit.
At some point Gi-hun is going to figure out who Player 001 really is and what he did. The question is whether or not that will help him finally “win” or if it will lead to the ultimate game over for him.
