Payment platform Stripe has taken another step into digital assets by integrating its fiat-to-crypto onramp with World App, the official wallet for the Worldcoin project. The move, announced August 29, allows US-based users to convert dollars directly into Worldcoin’s native token (WLD) within the app, making it easy for anyone to get started.
Thanks to the integration, World App users can now buy WLD using familiar payment methods such as bank transfers, debit and credit cards, and PayPal. The process runs on Stripe’s established infrastructure, which already powers payments for millions of businesses worldwide. With this integration with Stripe, Worldcoin hopes to reduce friction for newcomers who may be curious about blockchain but hesitant to navigate traditional exchanges.

Why is this significant for Worldcoin?

The project, backed by Sam Altman of OpenAI, has generated both excitement and controversy with its vision of a global identity system tied to crypto incentives. Making crypto purchases as easy as regular online transactions is a great strategy for mass adoption. Stripe already has a reputation for secure payment processing and tackling fraud. Beyond that, Stripe’s compliance stance provides Worldcoin with a good entry point to mainstream audiences.
Although this integration is currently limited to U.S. residents, there’s a possibility of expansion to other regions over time.
