Telegram Mandates TON Connect for Wallets
The change means third-party crypto wallets that previously worked with Telegram must now integrate TON Connect to continue functioning. Telegram’s spokesperson confirmed the partnership, stating that all third-party wallets must adopt the TON Connect protocol by February 21. The new rule mandates that existing Mini Apps on other blockchains move to TON, including asset migration and smart contract updates. However, Telegram’s crypto wallet, Wallet in Telegram, which is already based on TON, will remain unaffected by the shift.

The move is part of Telegram’s exclusive partnership with the TON Foundation, making the TON blockchain the only supported network for its messenger services. This has prompted some pushback from users and developers who worry about the limitations placed on other blockchain ecosystems. For instance, wallets that have yet to transition to TON Connect may no longer be supported after the migration period ends.
