Decentralization is the wave of the future. This represents a general shift from centralized entities and governance to distributed systems that empower individuals as part of a whole. Technologies such as peer-to-peer connectivity, mesh networking and blockchain networks are paving the way for dramatic changes to all ways of life and commerce. As interest in this trend continues to grow, a wide range of innovations are reshaping how people interact with one another online. These changes introduce new opportunities and challenge centralized systems such as monopolistic internet service providers (ISPs).
The Push Against Centralization
In the book “Every Man a King”, Huey P. Long argued against monopolistic practices. Mr. Long believed in decentralization and campaigned against Standard Oil’s monopoly on energy. He also rallied for breaking up the big banks. He also pushed the ‘Share Our Wealth’ program, which gained public support and forced FDR to create the 2nd New Deal. Mr. Long’s main philosophy was that no entity should have too much power.
Centralized entities, such as banks and governments have always controlled the economic systems. In 2008, Satoshi Nakamoto introduced Bitcoin as a technological way to decentralize money. The emergence of Bitcoin’s autonomous system has been a catalyst for a more democratic global economy in which anyone can participate without relying solely on centralized third-party intermediaries. This system economically incentivizes people from around the world to allocate infrastructure and processing power to the Bitcoin network. As of 2022, the Bitcoin market cap is more valuable than the market caps of the 3 largest banks in the world combined.
PKT Is The Future Of Internet Access
In 2019, a technology called PKT launched to decentralize internet access. PKT is powered by a free-to-use software called PacketCrypt that economically incentivizes people around the world to connect their bandwidth to the PKT Network. In the same way that Bitcoin has decentralized monetary systems, PKT empowers people around the world to build a decentralized edge network powered by the people.
Often people assume that the internet comes from large companies, the media, or governments. But the reality is the internet is data moving from one point to the next. This means that anyone who has internet access in their home, office, or smartphone can participate in decentralizing the internet. By enabling anyone to connect their Edge Point, the PKT Network scales network infrastructure without requiring technical know-how. As people connect their bandwidth, this builds an alternate way to get internet service without relying on monopolistic ISPs.
PKT also leverages efficient routing, mesh networking and decentralized bandwidth marketplaces to efficiently scale the PKT Network. Mesh networks are composed of a series of interconnected nodes that allow data to flow between devices. As more people connect, this lowers the barrier for everyone to participate in the multi-trillion-dollar annual bandwidth marketplace. By harnessing the power of mesh networking, it becomes possible to reduce bandwidth costs for everyone and decentralize reliable internet access.
Internet By The People
The Internet is an amazing tool, but it’s not perfect. Traditional ISPs may simplify access, but this comes with an exorbitant cost, lack of privacy, slow speed, and bandwidth limitations. Customers in rural areas are often not even serviceable. PKT strives for a future where it is possible to have internet speed, security, and affordability peer to peer connectivity at a fraction of the cost of current internet pricing.
Today’s bandwidth market is dominated by centralized ISPs. PKT is supporting a technological paradigm shift, where people can harness the bandwidth resources they are already paying for, and monetize their unused internet bandwidth. This kind of connectivity builds the robust, high-speed PKT Network and will help get the next 1 billion people online.
