The Sims offers a place where anyone can escape from reality to dive into a world of their very own design. The countless hours spent designing your dream home, creating the perfect character in create a sim, or simply exploring the wonders of life. Sadly, this might all be coming to an untimely end for mobile users. After seven years and more than 50 updates, Electronic Arts announced Sunday that The Sims Mobile will shut down for good come January.

The change goes into effect on January 20, 2026. The decision was announced in a blog post on the EA website.
“First, we want to say thank you,” the Sims Mobile team said. “The Sims Mobile and The Sims community as a whole are full of creativity, kindness, and imagination. You’ve amazed us with your stories, builds, and Sims. We’re proud to have shared this journey with you, and as a token of our appreciation, we’ve prepared a few surprises as we head into TSM’s final chapter.”
Before all the simmers out there start to panic, don’t worry. The Sims franchise isn’t going away. The Sims 4 is still alive and well for PC and console.

The shutdown follows EA’s transition from a publicly traded company to a privately held one. The buyout deal, valued at $55 billion, is with several investors from private-equity firms. That includes Silver Lake, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, and Jared Kushner’s Affinity Partners.
What to Expect From Sims Mobile Before It Shuts Down
As one last hurrah, EA is rolling out one final update for The Sims Mobile, the first part of which launched Monday. Per the update, every player will be granted unlimited energy and access to every build mode and create a sim item. That way, they can make the most of their time left. The game has already been delisted from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, meaning no new downloads. Still, existing and previous users can enjoy the final update before the server closes next year.

While it may be time to say “sul sul” to The Sims Mobile, simmers can still throw themselves into the world of imagination on PC and console. After its most recent update in September, “The Sims 4” continues to flourish. EA has even teased at a new Sims game that will explore online multiplayer features. More on that to be announced.
