The hypnotic motion, bright colors, anticipation over whether it will ever hit the corner—it’s addicting to say the least. Let’s be honest, you’ve probably caught yourself staring at it at one point or another. Heck, if you search up “DVD bouncing” on Google, the Google logo even starts bouncing around the screen to mimic the iconic screensaver. (Go ahead, try it. You know you want to.)
One content creator decided to recreate the mesmerizing display with a twist—by making it entirely out of LEGO. The best part, it actually works. Check it out!
We’ve gotta admit, it looks pretty legit. YouTuber and LEGO enthusiast Grant Davis is the brain behind the impressive design. The video walked through his entire process in depth.
According to Davis, he achieved the bouncing motion with worm gears, rubber band toggles, and a motor. Of course, this might not mean much to someone who knows virtually nothing about engineering (don’t worry, I’m right there with you.) Still, it’s not hard to see that this is pretty impressive feat. Davis explained the built took around three months to complete. Though the process had its fair share of trial and error, persistence paid off in the end, resulting in a pretty cool final design. I mean, really, it’s spot on.
Davis is a computer engineer with a background in art and engineering. His long-time obsession with LEGO led him to create “Bricks Made Simple,” a space where LEGO lovers can come together to enjoy the beauty of design. For more than ten years, Davis has designed and built stunning, dynamic creations out of LEGO.
