Two gaming worlds collide in one incredible fan mod you would never expect. Red Dead Redemption: a version of the past in which outlaws and bounty hunters roam free in a declining Western world. And Pokémon: a universe filled with uniquely powerful creatures that you can capture and train for battle. On the surface, the two franchises seem to live on opposite sides of the coin. So, imagine our delight when we saw that a YouTuber found a way to seamlessly bring them together. Watch how this mod transforms Red Dead Redemption 2 into Pokémon.

Gotta be honest, I would’ve never thought of turning RDR2 into a Pokémon RPG. But that’s exactly what YouTuber Blurbs did, and it works. In this mod, Arthur Morgan trades in his outlaw hat and throwing knife for a Pokémon trainer cap and Poké Ball. Since wild Pikachu and Bulbasaur don’t exist in the game (boo), he catches horses, ducks, and whatever other wild animals roam the West, instead. Apples and oranges.
Thanks to some intense coding, the mod makes it possible to “catch” animals by having players throw a ball at them. Just like Pokémon, this action can go one of two ways: either the animal will spin and shrink (Gotcha! Wild bear was caught), or break out of the ball and possibly maul you to death. If a player successfully catches an animal, it will reappear in the player’s roster. Pretty sweet modding.
There are some other cool features, too. The mod has a pop-up screen where you can name any “Pokémon” you catch, as well as HP bars and battle sequences. You can challenge any opponent by walking up to them and pointing, which will initiate the fight. And if you were wondering: yes, Uncle is a gym leader. All that I have mentioned is merely the tip of the iceberg for this impressive mod. Blurbs does a great job of incorporating all of the little things that make Pokémon so special. In Red Dead Redemption fashion, of course. I don’t even play RDR2, and I’m sold. And here’s something exciting: the mod will more than likely be released for anyone to download.
