When it comes to fast food classics, there’s none that’s more iconic than Chicken McNuggets. Why? Because they are literally perfect. That golden, crunchy breading encasing tender chicken goodness is delicious, whether you’re munching on them for a midday snack or inhaling a 10 piece for dinner. But, McDonald’s has found a way to somehow amplify their McNuggets, thanks to an expensive upgrade with caviar. I was fortunate to receive the precious gift of the highly coveted caviar kit and get a chance to try a McNugget with a decadent topping.
Before we get into what this combination tastes like, let’s go back in time just a bit. McDonald’s sent fans into a frenzy by announcing that the company would make special kits for fans in honor of Valentine’s Day. Those kits included McNugget caviar from Paramount, a $25 Arch card to grab some nuggies, and a container of creme fraiche to give the caviar a creamy place to land.
And while most things in life are not free, this limited kit was indeed free for those who ordered them on a special promotional website. Sadly, the kits were in such high demand that the website experienced some technical issues, which left many fans sad. McDonald’s USA offered this statement about the caviar kit drop and promised fans that there will be more events similar to this in the future:
McNugget Caviar was designed as a limited-edition drop, offered free of charge. The fan excitement was so real it caused the kits to sell out very quickly, leading some to experience site disruptions. We look forward to bringing more ways for fans to enjoy our limited time drops in the future.

Now, let’s get into this kit. It came in a lunch bag with a special McNugget caviar tag that I am totally going to use again and again. Inside is exactly what McDonald’s promised: an Arch gift card, a 1oz tin a of rich black pearls that beg to be ladled on top of a McNugget, and a container of creme fraiche, which is a dairy product that’s similar to sour cream, but it has a higher fat content and milder flavor. I couldn’t wait to open up that caviar and have a late lunch.
And reader, lemme tell you something… it was delicious. McNuggets are perfect on their own. But that extra pop of buttery and briny flavor along with the velvety, tangy, and slightly nutty profile of the creme fraiche all came together quite well. I told myself that I’d have just two or three before I finished my 10-piece the good old-fashioned way. I ended up eating 7 of them topped with McNugget caviar and feeling incredibly fancy in my dining room. There was the immense joy of trying something so novel paired with the heartache of knowing that this will not be on the menu because it would probably be $120.

This special drop was actually inspired by fans online who say that they like to pair nuggets with caviar, and McDonald’s did a great job of capitalizing on that. Anchoring the love for a staple menu item and showing that the fast food chain could elevate it with a food that is often viewed as a symbol of class and wealth was genius. And yes, I saved a little McNugget caviar to sample with fries that I’ll get with my Arch card to celebrate myself for Valentine’s Day. All in all, McDonald’s is certainly maintaining its foothold in the industry with creativity, style, and yes, class.
