Originally aired in 2017 on Alpha, Sagas of Sundry: Madness takes place in 1993 as a group of tenants living in a 1930s landmark discovers a dark secret brewing within their building’s walls. The follow-up to the fan-favorite Sagas of Sundry: Dread stars Game Master Ivan van Norman, Liam O’Brien, Xander Jeanneret, Marisha Ray, Jeremy Walker, and Erika Ishii, and also features the return of Darin De Paul as Mr. Wren.
What is Sagas of Sundry: Madness?
Sagas of Sundry: Madness is an innovative actual-play TTRPG series created by Ivan Van Norman that uses the game Dread to tell a tense, thrilling, and ever-evolving story. Created in 2005 by Epidiah Ravachol, Dread is a role-playing game built around suspense. Instead of rolling dice to resolve actions, players pull a brick from a Jenga tower to determine what happens. Sagas of Sundry: Dread and Madness uses Dread as the chaos engine that powers highly immersive, cinematic storytelling.
Who Stars in Sagas of Sundry: Madness?
Liam O’Brien (Critical Role, The Mighty Nein) is Emmett Markham, an introverted playwright who left everything behind to live the life of a starving artist.
Xander Jenneret (LA By Night, Relics & Rarities) is Fenly Emerson, a real people person whose talkative nature sometimes makes him new friends, and sometimes lands him in hot water.
Marisha Ray (Critical Role, The Mighty Nein) is Abigail Persimmon, an aspiring actress from Los Angeles with dueling anger and daddy issues (that may or may not be a Venn diagram).
Erika Ishii (Ghost of Yotei, Apex Legends) is Selina Tsukiyama, a brilliant young woman who tries to escape her demons through an emerging technology…the Internet.
Jeremy Walker (9-1-1, Valleyheart) is Jude Marley, a certified hedonist, living life on the edge. But behind that bombastic persona lies a deep well of personal tragedy…
Ivan Van Norman (Hunters Entertainment, Darrington Press) is the Game Master, the master of ceremonies, and the mastermind behind Sagas of Sundry: Dread and Madness. The only thing more terrifying than his narration is when her urges our players to “Make a pull.”
Why is Sagas of Sundry: Madness Finally Releasing?
If you’re frantically looking at your calendars to make sure you didn’t accidentally travel back in time, don’t worry. I promise you didn’t. Well, I can promise that for like 97% of you. Longtime fans may remember that back in the halcyon days of 2016-2019, we had a streaming service called Alpha, which was full of fantastic and innovative shows from the fine folks at Nerdist, Geek & Sundry, and beyond.
Unfortunately, when Alpha shut down in March 2019, we could not simply publish all the content that existed behind the paywall. This wasn’t because of a sinister cabal plotting to keep us in the pocket of Big Lost Media; rather, there were more mundane reasons, such as music licensing.
That was exactly the case with Sagas of Sundry: Madness. Over the last several years, we’ve been working behind the scenes to secure the proper clearances so we can bring great content like this to our audience. While we have definitely noticed and appreciated the unnamed archivists who have kept these stories from disappearing into the annals of history, we also wanted to make them available in a more official capacity. Because, as someone who has been creating digital content for 15 years and counting, I understand the pain of seeing your hard work Thanos-snapped out of existence all too well.
