Lady Gaga and the Addams Family is a match made in heaven. She’s a pop queen known for her penchant for the strange and macabre, just like our favorite creepy family. So, it is a total delight that Lady Gaga joined Wednesday season two part two as Rosaline Rotwood. That last name rang a bell to fans who watched part one because Morticia and Gomez were living in Rotwood Cottage to be close for the show’s splendid gala. But, who is Lady Gaga’s character Rosaline Rotwood in Wednesday and why does her story matter? Let’s sum this up in (a little more than) two snaps. 

In episode six, Grandmama Frump tells Wednesday about her former professor Rosaline Rotwood, a Raven who was skilled in runes. Rotwood used to hold seances in the Rotwood Cottage and she’s buried in Nevermore’s cemetery. She tells Wednesday that if she touches Rosaline’s grave and recites the inscription on it, that she can temporarily gain access to her powers once again.

Grandmama also warns her that this might not be a great idea but, of course, Wednesday does it out of determination to save Enid and stop Tyler and his family from their schemes. Wednesday meets Lady Gaga’s Rosaline Rotwood while in a psychic trance. Rotwood tells her that if she holds her hand over the Raven’s flame, she can get answers that she seeks. However, if she removes her hand prematurely, there’s a price to pay. Wednesday agrees to do this but Enid comes along and accidentally causes her to remove her hand. The pair faint and wake up in a Freaky Friday situation that leads to a really funny “Wednesday” moment. 

Wednesday, who is now in Enid’s body, has to figure out how to reverse the swap, or they both will die at dusk. She goes to Rotwood’s cottage to snoop around the seance room for answers, and Rotwood’s ghastly appearance meets her there. Morticia shows up and essentially chases her away. Enid and Wednesday crack the code to swap back bodies, but there’s another trade in place for utilizing Rosaline Rotwood’s grave.

An Addams must die, and that person seems to be Pugsley. He nearly dies at the hands of Isaac Night, whom he once knew as his zombie friend Slurp. Night is the former bestie of Gomez who nearly killed him to save his sister Francoise, who is Tyler’s mother and a Hyde. Isaac tries to recreate this dark experiment with Pugsley, but the Addams family bans together to save the day.

We don’t get any more of Rosaline Rotwood in Wednesday, but it was certainly a fun cameo by Lady Gaga to build the show’s lore. We know there are spinoffs coming, and one that takes us back to Grandmama Frump’s days at Nevermore with Rosaline Rotwood sounds like a winner.
