The wait is almost over as we follow the yellow brick road back to Oz for Wicked: For Good. The splendalocious two-part story boasts a beloved cast of characters, including Ariana Grande as Glinda the Good and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba Thropp. One lingering question that has evaded us since the first Wicked premiered last November is who will play the oh-so-famous Dorothy? The mystery has finally been solved. The studio confirms that British theater actress and Pilates teacher Bethany Weaver will slip on the silver slippers in the sequel.
Bethany Weaver is Dorothy
Famously portrayed by Judy Garland in The Wizard of Oz, the pigtailed schoolgirl from Kansas is one of the most recognizable faces in Hollywood. With her trusty dog Toto and blue gingham dress, Dorothy returns to the screen 86 years later. With the soaring success of Director Jon M. Chu’s Wicked, speculation raged over who would play Dorothy next. Turns out, a Pilates teacher from Surrey. 30-year-old Bethany Weaver assumes the iconic role, though it seems the sequel is going to great lengths to shroud the character in anonymity.
According to report from The Sun, Weaver only appears for a brief 69 seconds of the 2 hour 17 minute sequel to say just six words. Her face isn’t even shown once. There’s also been an effort to keep the actress as far away from the spotlight as possible. Not only has Weaver not attended any major premieres, but the cast is also apparently banned from publicly interacting with her on social media. Weaver’s Instagram is barren of anything Wicked, too. It seems a bit odd, but Chu explains these measures are taken intentionally as to not draw attention away from Glinda and Elphie. Wicked: For Good is their story, after all.
“I didn’t want to step on who you think Dorothy is in whatever story that you came into this with,” Chu said. “It is still Elphaba and Glinda’s journey, and she is a pawn in the middle of all of it.”
The Road To Wicked: For Good

Promotion for the highly-anticipated movie is already coming in vivacious waves. Earlier this month, NBC dazzled audiences with a spectacular primetime musical special. The beloved cast takes to the stage to deliver captivating performances in front of a live studio audience. The special teases two brand new original songs: “No Place Like Home,” sung by Erivo, and “The Girl in the Bubble,” sung by Grande. Both songs will play in Wicked: For Good.
Although it seems we won’t see much of Dorothy in the second act, it’s nice to finally put a face to the name. Metaphorically speaking, of course. With the long-awaited conclusion just inches away, we’re more than ready to be changed for good. Wicked: For Good hits theaters everywhere on November 21.
