Will SPOILER Save the Wasteland on FALLOUT Season 2? Rotem Rusak | usagoldmines.com

Listen, it’s probably too early to Mr. House-apologize to such an immense degree. There is still one whole episode of Fallout season two to go. And if experience has taught me anything, it’s that I can be cheering for my anti-hero to do the right thing, and he’ll do it 85% of the way, and then EVERYTHING will go wrong. But there’s at least reason to HOPE, you know? And that’s pretty good for me. Because personally, Fallout season two has just raised the question I most wanted it to ask. Will Mr. House plus cold fusion mean the Wasteland can become a better place on Fallout; could he possibly save the world? It kind of feels like Walton Goggins’ The Ghoul thinks so. After all, he just brought cold fusion right into Mr. House’s hands on Fallout season two, episode seven. And the reason he gave for it was that this time, instead of giving Cold Fusion to “a good person so they can save the world,” he’s going to “give it to a really bad person.” Hey, a bad person can, on occasion, do the right thing. You know? Let’s dive into what’s happening with Mr. House, The Ghoul, and Cold Fusion on Fallout season two.

In the Past, The Ghoul/Cooper Howard Tries to Prevent Mr. House From Getting Cold Fusion

Fallout season two, episode seven, doesn’t give us the whole picture of what happens to Cold Fusion in the past timeline. All we know in broad strokes is that Cooper and Barbara Howard want to prevent Mr. House from getting his hands on them, because they still, for some reason, think Mr. House wants to give Vault-Tec nuclear bombs to drop on the world—even though it seemed pretty clear that wasn’t his plan. Then again, he was behaving kind of like a lunatic, so we’ll give Coop a pass on not fully believing him. We guess he doesn’t have the benefit of Fallout: New Vegas to give him some Mr. House backstory. In any case, Coop teams up with good guy House of Representatives member, Representative Welch, who wants him to give Cold Fusion to the President, played by Clancy Brown.

Now, we know the President is bad news bears. Much worse than Mr. House. “The Last President of the United States” on Fallout, the person who was president when the bombs dropped, is part of the Fallout games’ major villain, the Enclave. After Fallout season two, the Enclave has become even worse. We now suspect the Enclave is also controlling Vault-Tec, or both organizations are being controlled by one greater entity. We don’t know whether the President himself is pulling these strings, though probably not. But we do know, you can’t trust Fallout‘s president. And honestly, can you ever trust the president? Coop does not know this, however, and he hands over Cold Fusion to, presumably, both Vault-Tec and the Enclave. Oh, Mr. House is going to kill him.

Mr. House Does Not Get Cold Fusion Before the Bombs Drop in Fallout‘s World

What happens to Cold Fusion after it’s handed over to “The Last President of the United States” in Fallout‘s world, we don’t yet know. All we know is that the Enclave ends up with it in the present Wasteland timeline. And Vault-Tec’s password lock remained on it until Lucy and Moldaver forced Hank MacLean to unlock it in Fallout season one. Suspicious. We also know that Mr. House does not end up with Cold Fusion before the nuclear bombs drop and the Great War begins in Fallout, despite his initial Vault-Tec deal for it. Maybe that’s somehow thanks to Cooper Howard/The Ghoul’s interference in Fallout season two, episode seven. Only time will tell.

Regardless, however, Mr. House gets himself to the present timeline on Fallout, it does not involve Cold Fusion as he originally planned. Perhaps this shift in his odds also contributes to the reason why Mr. House isn’t fully able to defend Las Vegas against the falling of the nuclear bombs, and manages to miscalculate the end of the world by 20 hours.

200 Years Later, The Ghoul Gives Cold Fusion to Mr. House on Fallout Season 2 And Brings Him Back to Life

But 200 years later, as Maximus tells The Ghoul in Fallout season two, episode seven, “You always end up back where you started.” And for one Cooper Howard on Fallout season two, that’s in Mr. House’s control room in Lucky 28, facing the man, thinking about the end of the world and Cold Fusion. Cooper Howard tried to prevent Mr. House from getting Cold Fusion before the Great War on Fallout. But, it feels to us like The Ghoul, older, wiser, world-weary, knows you don’t necessarily have to be a bad person to do a bad thing. And you don’t necessarily need to be a good person to do a good thing.

Ultimately, we know The Ghoul wants one thing on Fallout: to be reunited with his wife and daughter and, we assume, to live a good, long life with them. And given everything he’s been through, we assume that for The Ghoul/Cooper Howard, that means stopping Vault-Tec, the Enclave, and any other mysterious entities before he wakes up his family and brings them into the Wasteland existence. It might not be clear to us or to him how that could happen, given the present state of things on Fallout season two, but he seems to think Mr. House might have a clue. After all, he says to Maximus that giving Cold Fusion to Mr. House is the way to save Lucy, and presumably, stop Hank MacLean.

And so, a lifetime away from their first meeting, Cooper Howard/The Ghoul finally hands Mr. House the thing he wanted all along, Cold Fusion. And ‘lo, Mr. House returns to the land of the living on Fallout season two.

But How Does Fallout: New Vegas Fit Into This Mr. House Storyline on Fallout Season 2?

Of course, all of this begs the question: how does what we know about Mr. House from Fallout: New Vegas meld into this present Mr. House storyline? Mr. House appears in Fallout: New Vegas, after all, and he doesn’t seem to need Cold Fusion to do it. In Fallout: New Vegas, we learn that Mr. House kept his body alive in a special life-support hibernation chamber and then hardwired his brain to a massive supercomputer, allowing him to continue ruling Las Vegas. When it comes to what happens to Mr. House on Fallout: New Vegas, there are a few options across the four endings. If Mr. House wins, then he comes to control New Vegas, forcing the Legion and NCR away. In all other Fallout: New Vegas endings, Mr. House is removed from power, and he can be either shot, removed from life support, or locked away to meet his doom.

Could the Fake Mr. House Have Something to Do with It?

Of course, Fallout season two has been VERY careful not to make one Fallout: New Vegas ending canon over others, and it absolutely will not stop now… Which leads us to Bobby Apartment, the fandom name for Mr. House’s fake double played by Rafi Silver. For all intents and purposes, no one knows who the real Mr. House is. The figure known as Mr. House to the world is actually this fake double. If Fallout: New Vegas‘ Mr. House is really Bobby Apartment… well, then none of the endings would impact Mr. House’s ACTUAL return on Fallout season two, would they? We feel this would be a wild swing by the series, but the door is certainly open. More likely though, Bobby Apartment is just the decaying body we see in Fallout: New Vegas, and the digital version on the computer screen is the real Mr. House. Perhaps The Courier simply shuts down one computerized version of Mr. House, and Cooper Howard/The Ghoul is able to reboot him with Cold Fusion. Mr. House’s real body in the form of Justin Theroux could also be out there… somewhere… We hope…

We Feel Confident the Fallout Series Will Give Us All the Answers We Seek

For now, we’ll need just a little more information to understand how Mr. House’s Fallout: New Vegas storylines and his Fallout season two existence all come together. For example, why was Representative Welch’s head wearing the funny helmet we see keeping Mr. House alive in Fallout: New Vegas, and how was she powering the Mind Control devices created by Hank MacLean? We feel that must tie into it somehow. But we’re confident we’ll like all the answers we receive.

Will Mr. House Save the World on Fallout Season 2?

All of this brings us back to the question at hand: Will Mr. House save the world with Cold Fusion in Fallout season two? The Ghoul/Cooper Howard certainly gives him many votes of confidence throughout Fallout season two, episode seven. He says Mr. House always comes out on top, so they need to play more like him. Or maybe they just need him? We hope so! Our biggest worry is that secretly, Mr. House is working with Vault-Tec, the Enclave, and whoever else, after all. But we’d really prefer it if Mr. House and the Ghoul could just be chums on Fallout. We’ll have to see if we’ll win like Mr. House or not when the Fallout season two finale releases.

Fallout season two is now streaming on Prime Video.
