Windows 11 adds ‘streaming’ to Notepad: Watch AI type letter by letter | usagoldmines.com

Microsoft continues to build out Copilot AI support in Notepad for Windows 11. The latest update introduces so-called “streaming” in the minimalist text editor, reports Windows Latest.

But this isn’t the kind of streaming you’re thinking of. There’s no hint of Netflix or YouTube here. Instead, here’s what it means: you can now watch Copilot write out its AI-generated text letter by letter, similar to how it works on ChatGPT and other AI chatbots. Until now, the AI text generation in Copilot just appeared all at once.

What’s the point of it? Who knows. It can’t be that people have been asking for it, as recent social media backlash indicates nobody is really asking for more Copilot. Maybe Microsoft (misguidedly) thinks that replicating the ChatGPT experience will draw ChatGPT users.

The feature is initially only available on Copilot+ PCs, but will later be widely released on traditional AMD and Intel computers. Users who don’t care for AI in Notepad can switch off Copilot in the settings.
