The Wyoming Highway Patrol Association (WHPA) and Proof of Workforce have partnered up for a landmark Bitcoin initiative. The initiative aligns with the “Get Off Zero” campaign which encourages organizations to start investing in Bitcoin.
The Wyoming Highway Patrol Association will be the first enforcement association to hold Bitcoin in the U.S.
The WHPA, established in 1974, supports Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP) personnel, including troopers, dispatchers, and civilian staff, by providing resources, training, and professional development. The “Get Off Zero” initiative will expose the labor group to the world of digital assets and teach them how to leverage cryptocurrencies for their benefit.
The Wyoming Highway Patrol Association adopts Bitcoin
The union made the announcement on X on the Proof of Workforce official account. Proof of Workforce is a non-profit organization dedicated to Bitcoin education. The organization has worked with many other labor groups prior to partnering with the WHPA.
Proof of Workforce assisted the Santa Monica Firefighters in becoming the first U.S. union to self-custody Bitcoin and educated trustees from the Wisconsin Retirement System before its Bitcoin investment. The non-profit also helped establish the first Municipal Bitcoin Office in the United States in Santa Monica.
“The men and women of the Wyoming Highway Patrol Association proudly work to enhance the safety of all of those on our highways. We are excited to explore Bitcoin as a network and asset, to evaluate ways it can further support our organization and its members.” Austin Bluemel, the Vice President of WHPA, said.
Why Bitcoin?
“Bitcoin continues to protect the time and energy of those who protect us. Similar to a chaotic and unpredictable emergency situation, Bitcoin remains a reliable and stable long-term tool for workers and wage-earners amidst an ever-changing and expanding fiat-based monetary system,” said Dom Bei, the founder of Proof of Workforce.
The growing trend of institutional and public sector interest in digital assets makes this a timely initiative for the labor force of Wyoming. The state is notably crypto-friendly and has policies that favor blockchain innovation and growth.
U.S. Senator Cynthia Lummis, who is a known vocal Bitcoin advocate, expressed her support for the WHPA’s initiative, saying: “The Wyoming Highway Patrol Association’s investment in Bitcoin ensures they will be able to continue keeping our highways safe across the Cowboy State, and I am excited they continue to use new technology to support their mission.”
WHPA’s adoption of Bitcoin could set a precedent for other law enforcement groups across the country as the ability to self-custody Bitcoin will give the labor force access to financial sovereignty as well as an alternative means to store value.
