We finally have our first official images from the long-awaited second season of X-Men ’97. And it actually comes from a poster fans can now buy on Amazon, not from Marvel Television. This X-Men ’97 second season poster features all our principal X-Men together, and shows just how they’ll look for at least part of season two. You can check out the poster below, and then we’ll unpack just what this promo image means for our heroes, and where we find them in year two.
For starters, we see the shapeshifter Morph in the upper left box. He looks more or less the same, only now, he’s wearing a cool ’90s jacket. Next to him is Polaris, daughter of Magneto, and a member of the government-sponsored mutant team X-Factor. Next to her is Storm, wearing a decked-out version of the standard X-Men training uniform. After her is Cyclops, wearing a jacket of his blue and white costume he wore in the comics as leader of X-Factor in the ’80s.
In the second row, Jean Grey wears a jacket on top of her ’80s X-Factor costume. Next to her is the mutant soldier Cable, and next to him is Roberto Dacosta, a.k.a. Sunspot. In this image, we see he’s wearing his X-Force costume from the mid-90s comics. Next to Sunspot is Rogue, wearing an orange poncho similar to her orange ’80s costume.
In row three, we have Forge and Bishop, who look very much as we saw them last in season one. Next to them is Beast, only with a jacket and not his lab coat. And next to Hank is Jubilee, wearing the costume she wore in the X-Men ’97 season one finale.
And finally, in row four, we have a bearded Magneto, next to the teleporting mutant Nightcrawler. Next to Kurt is Wolverine, wearing a bandana mask. This recalls the era where Logan went feral after losing his adamantium claws. The final image on the lower right-hand side is X-Men founder Charles Xavier.
Hopefully, with merch already dropping, we hope Disney+ gives us an official trailer for X-Men ’97 very soon, and even a release date as well.
