A great, noble plumber once said, “Let’s-a go!” Inspiring. Well, this year he a-went to the Super Bowl. Nintendo and Illumination debuted a new trailer for the sequel to their smash hit, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, during the NFL’s big game. And this latest out-of-this-world look at The Super Mario Galaxy Movie helped, fittingly, make Super Sunday even more super. You can watch The Super Mario Galaxy Movie trailer below.
We know Toad is not happy about the group’s newest member. And we get it. He does show up out of nowhere in the games and sort of takes on a huge role immediately. But we’re happy to have Yoshi around… especially as we see him create an egg in literal real time, amazing. Mario and Luigi will need his help, too. Bowser has his own family members and loyal koopas to help him exact his revenge. Of course, in addition to Yoshi’s eggs, the Super Mario Galaxy Movie will feature many Easter eggs for fans to enjoy, like the arrival of the Shy Guys, who we love.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will feature returning stars Chris Pratt (Mario), Charlie Day (Luigi), Anya Taylor-Joy (Princess Peach), Jack Black (Bowser), and Keegan-Michael Key (Toad). The sequel will also introduce Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr., Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, and Brie Larson as Princess Rosalina.
Nintendo and Illumination, still counting all the gold coins the original film raked in, know you don’t mess with a winning formula. That’s why the team behind the film is all returning. Directors Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic are back with another screenplay from Matthew Fogel. And Brian Tyler also returned to compose the score.
It’s not just the first film The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has to live up to, though. It’s also the game it’s based on. Super Mario Galaxy is one of the most popular, most beloved, most highly rated in history. Can it’s big screen adaptation match that. We’ll find out when it comes to theaters on April 1. That’s when we’ll all be saying, “Let’s-a-go.”
