Zelda Williams Calls AI Videos Of Robin Williams and Other Celebrities ‘Disgusting’ Sarah Campbell | usagoldmines.com

Anyone who doesn’t live in a cave is well aware of the sweeping influence AI has on today’s society. It answers our ridiculous questions, does our homework, and even writes our essays (though I assure you, none of that here, folks!) No matter who you ask, it’s safe to say that AI has us all wrapped around it’s tiny, algorithmic finger. One trend that has been on the rise as of late is AI generated videos of dead celebrities circling the internet. People like Zelda Williams are fed up.

Williams has had enough of people sending her AI videos of her late father, Robin Williams. “Disgusting” as she described them. The daughter of the legendary actor very vocally took to social media to share her qualms.

Her Statement is as Follows:

“Please, just stop sending me AI videos of Dad. Stop believing I wanna see it or that I’ll understand, I don’t and I won’t,” Zelda posted on her Instagram Stories. “If you’re just trying to troll me, I’ve seen way worse, I’ll restrict and move on. But please, if you’ve got any decency, just stop doing this to him and to me, to everyone even, full stop. It’s dumb, it’s a waste of time and energy, and believe me, it’s NOT what he’d want.”

This isn’t the first instance of artificially-generated celebrity videos floating around social media, either. Legends like Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley, 2Pac, and Kobe Bryant have all been “brought back to life” in AI form.

“To watch the legacies of real people be condensed down to ‘this vaguely looks and sounds like them so that’s enough,’ just so other people can churn out horrible TikTok slop puppeteering them is maddening,” Zelda continued. “You’re not making art, you’re making disgusting, over-processed hotdogs out of the lives of human beings, out of history of art and music, and then shoving them down someone else’s throat hoping they’ll give you a little thumbs up and like it. Gross.”

Has AI Gone Too Far?

I’ve gotta admit, the concept is a bit morbid. Sure, there are a lot of benefits to AI, namely when it comes to research, data analytics, and even in the medical field. But randomly-generated photos and videos that are arbitrarily useless? Recreating the likeness of late celebrities against their loved ones’ wishes? Opinions are mixed.

You can argue that it’s all in good fun, and, sometimes it can be. Don’t get me wrong, I love messing around with ChatGPT just as much as the next person. But Williams does bring up a good point: where do we draw the line? That, I suppose, remains an extremely subjective question.
