The United States police have declared a California man who allegedly called himself a ‘Bitcoin billionaire’ wanted in all 50 states after he skipped court. According to United States prosecutors, the defendant, 30-year-old Kevin Segal, is facing about 141 and half years in prison after he scammed businesses in Wyoming out of approximately $212,000.
According to United States police, Segal pretended to be a wealthy businessman trying to purchase real estate worth millions of dollars in the Jackson Hole area. United States authorities have now declared Segal wanted after he borrowed $50,000 from another individual, Jason Irvine, to pay his bond last month but failed to show up in court this week.
According to reports, Irvine mentioned that Segal had promised to refund him with Bitcoin worth about $500K if he agreed to post the bond on his behalf. “He explained the situation and was denying all the charges written in the newspaper. He said it was libel and slander, and he didn’t intend to defraud anybody. He was locked up in jail, and said that’s why he couldn’t pay anybody off,” Irvine said.

According to Irvine’s statement, he established that both of them were friends, noting that one of his family members had vouched for him. He added that he maxed out three of his credit cards to pay for the bond. After his bond was posted, Segal was released from prison in February, with the United States court giving a strict order for him to turn in his passport.

However, Segal never turned in his passport, according to Park County District Court Judge Bill Simpson. The judge had to go on with a hearing on Wednesday because Segal failed to show up. The judge forfeited the $50,000 bond. His next bond has been placed at $750,000 cash only if he is eventually captured, with a bench warrant issued in over 50 states for his arrest because of his absence.
In his statement, Irvine mentioned that he is now looking for options for filing for bankruptcy, hoping that the United States authorities will apprehend Segal soon. “You screwed me over, and now I don’t believe anything you say anymore. You’re a sociopath and a con man, and you’re going to get what you deserve,” Irvine said to him in a text.
Authorities to intensify efforts to apprehend Segal
United States authorities have confirmed that Segal’s whereabouts remain unknown, but they are intensifying efforts to apprehend him. “We don’t know his exact whereabouts right now. We want to bring him back here so we can have some type of restitution for all of our local victims. There were a lot of people, besides bigger companies, that have been affected,” Teton County Sheriff’s Sgt. John Fiacco said.
During his trial in January, detective Adam Rainey testified, mentioning that he lied to people just to live a good life. “I believe that Mr. Segal just posed to be a Bitcoin billionaire and said this to everybody just to live the high life,” he said.
The Teton County Sheriff’s Office started to look into Segal in May 2024, after a report from a car dealership in Jackson known as Rocky Mountain Yeti. The company claimed that Segal promised to wire $159,427 for a brand new 2024 Dodge Ram 3500 pickup truck, but the funds didn’t go through. It was discovered that Segal had been staying at the five-star hotel Caldera House but checked out six days before he took possession of the vehicle. According to an affidavit, Segal secretly left the hotel without paying $14,870 in several bills.
Investigations also revealed that he was also a guest at the luxurious Amangani resort, where he stayed with his mother and friend. The hotel said he left without paying his outstanding $2,725 bill. Segal also went to Mangy Moose Saloon where he also racked up a bill worth $3,055 that went unpaid. He was also accused of deceiving several parties, including a man who was asked to pick up a drone.
According to court documents, he had also been involved in a civil lawsuit after he lied to a family that he sold stocks worth $340 million and had a successful company in order to lease a property in Los Angeles. The lawsuit accused him of reversing wire transfers and paying for the leased property with phony checks. The case was finalized in September 2023 after a settlement between all parties.
