If you’ve been following Ethereum lately, you’ve probably heard about the Ethereum unstaking queue. As of now, over 877,000 ETH worth around $3.8 billion are waiting for withdrawal, which is causing investors to wait out a 15-day delay to access their funds.
Is this heavy increase in the Ethereum unstaking queue indicative of a bearish vibe of selling pressure, or is it part of the network’s natural growth cycle?
Why the Queue Is So Big
The rush to unstake started with a spike in ETH lending rates, which made leveraged strategies (like borrowing ETH to stake more ETH) unprofitable. To unwind these “looping” trades, investors had to unstake and repay debts. The majority of withdrawals come from Lido, EthFi, and Coinbase, with Lido alone having a queue of 285,000 ETH.

The Ethereum protocol reduces the number of validators who can exit at once to maintain network stability. So when a wave of exits hits, delays grow dramatically.
Bearish Concerns: Could Prices Drop?
Some analysts warn that when billions of ETH are finally unlocked, it will put selling pressure on the market. Decrypt and BeInCrypto highlight that ETH has already seen price dips, falling around 6.5% after a big ETF outflow of $197 million in one day. If selling accelerates, it could break key levels around $4,200 and $3,900.

Bullish Side
Institutional interest is playing a cushioning role on the other side. Data shows ETH holdings in spot ETFs and corporate treasuries have surged 140% since May, now topping 10 million ETH. Big companies are purchasing the available supply, while some retail users are leaving the market.

Analyst Ignas points out that part of this unstaking may be capital rotation. Some investors might be unlocking ETH now in preparation for the launch of ETH staking ETFs in October 2025.

What’s more, queue wait time reached record of ~12 days.

Is It Bearish or Just Noise?
Short-term risks surround the Ethereum unstaking boom, particularly in instances where selling exceeds institutional purchases. It also indicates a healthy system where capital flows are shifting between strategies, ETFs and staking.
Lots of FUD on ETH unstaking queue. Seeing a lot of people post this chart without showing the entry queue (~300k ETH), which is approaching yearly highs.
Total ETH staking outflows – inflows = ~600k ETH. This is still a big number relative to the past year, but approximately… https://t.co/ksjsLTHPHZ pic.twitter.com/OvpkDCEDnK

The long queue in Ethereum unstaking isn’t a done deal for ETH; it’s more like growing pains. With close to 30% of the ETH supply staked and institutional accumulation, the network looks more resilient than ever. The wait may shake short-term prices, but Ethereum keeps building long-term strength.
