Head of Marvel TV Takes Over Marvel Comics Eric Diaz | usagoldmines.com

There’s been a big shake-up at Marvel Comics, as announced via The Hollywood Reporter. It seems Brad Winderbaum, head of Marvel Television, will now also be running the comics side of things as well. Winderbaum has been promoted to “Head of Marvel television, animation, comics, and franchise,” which means he’ll be taking over from longtime publisher Dan Buckley. It seems Marvel’s current Editor-in-Chief, C.B. Cebulski, will remain in his current position. At the same time, David Abdo will segue from Disney to serve as Marvel’s general manager, comics and franchise, reporting directly to Winderbaum.

So what does this mean for Marvel Comics? Possibly nothing, at least right away. But there will likely be more “synergy” between the comics and Marvel Studios. Something which some might say there is already a tad too much of. However, it must be said that Brad Winderbaum has whipped Marvel Television into shape in a big way in the last couple of years. Under his watch, Marvel Television pulled away from big-budget movies masquerading as TV shows. In the Winderbaum era, we’ve had X-Men ’97, Daredevil: Born Again, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, and most recently, Wonder Man. If we can get that kind of quality control at Marvel Comics, we say bring it on.

Dan Buckley has been the publisher of Marvel Comics since 2003. And he has been with the company since the early ’90s. So he has overseen many, many eras. Right now, Marvel Comics has been in a bit of a rut, while DC Comics has been ruling the sales charts with its Absolute Comics line. Could a change in management usher in a new Marvel Comics golden age? Hopefully, Winderbaum puts an end to Marvel’s refusal to allow any new series to go past ten issues without starting over again. That’s something we wouldn’t mind seeing over on the comics side.
