Leading up to next month’s hardware event, we’ve learned through leaks that the Pixel 11 series, as well as the Pixel Watch 5 could see price increases. Until now, none of that was official from Google. Sadly, that has now changed, with Google’s own VP of Devices and Services, Shakil Barkat, essentially bracing folks for what’s about to happen.
As it stands, the price for RAM has gone up significantly. For context, the price of 1GB of RAM went from $2.80 in 2025 to $12 in 2026, according to data from Morgan Stanley. That’s obviously a massive jump, one that Barkat says Google can no longer shield its customers from this.
He states that Google has, “shielded our consumers from supply fluctuations for as long as possible. However, the economics have fundamentally shifted and we’re not immune to that.”
Due to these changes, the entire Pixel family will see “adjustments” that will be, “rolled dynamically to match supply realities.”
The issue most consumers will have is that not only will the price go up, but what they receive in return is lowered. For example, it appears the base model of the Pixel 11 Pro will go from 16GB to 12GB, while still seeing a price increase of $100.
Barkat mentions that Google is making a large effort at the Android level, ensuring that the system and Android apps can run better on less RAM, which not only affects Pixel buyers, but all Android users, regardless of whether they can afford a flagship tier device or something more affordable.
The challenges being faced don’t appear to be going away anytime soon. As consumers, choices will need to be made. Maybe we don’t upgrade to the latest and greatest? Maybe we opt for less storage and RAM?
Google’s Pixel hardware announcement is scheduled for August 12. Official pricing details will be made available at that time.
