Android 17 QPR1 is a big update, which we’ve told you about a number of times throughout the past day. Most of the changes come as bug fixes (there are over 20 fixes) and there are some new items through a Pixel Drop, but Google also included a bunch of minor tweaks here and there that you might not know about.
One of those changes is a new ability to set custom vibration patterns for both ringtones and notifications.
So we’re clear, ringtones and notifications have always been paired with either a standard vibration pattern or one that matched their flow. This is cool and all, but what if you just want a different vibration pattern because you leave your phone on silent, yet have a ringtone set for those rare times you turn up the volume? You can do that now.
Android 17 QPR1 adds custom vibration patterns to ringtones
To see these new settings, you’ll head into Settings>Sounds & vibration and then look for the “Sound & vibration patterns” section. Within this section, you should see Ringtone, Notification, and Alarm.
With Android 17 QPR1, you can tap on Ringtone or Notification and you’ll now see a new option towards the top for “Vibration.” Tapping into that area will let you set your default vibration pattern for either ringtones or notifications.
However, you can also set this once you choose a ringtone or notification. Once you choose one, you’ll now see the vibration option listed below the name of the sound. Tapping that will bring up the Vibrations area to let you quickly pick something new.
