Beekeepers work outside the normal chain of government command. As we saw in the franchise’s first film, it’s the only way they can truly complete their mission and protect the hive. But what do you do when the Beekeepers themselves are the ones binging chaos and disorder? You get the best darn Beekeeper around to smoke out his own brethren. And if that concept doesn’t already have you fired up for The Beekeper 2, just wait until you see the sequel’s first trailer. It features Jason Statham‘s Adam Clay doing what he does best: killing a whole lot of people.
Sometimes you go to a movie theater and you want a deep, reflective tale about what it means to be a sentient, emotional being who is less than a speck in a universe we’ll never fully understand. And sometimes you want to see Jason Statham put a blowtorch in a guy’s mouth and pull the trigger. That’s where The Beekeeper 2 comes in. Our moral killing machine is back. Only this time it’s his fellow Beekeepers causing problems. Here’s the film’s official synopsis, which teases that Clay’s actions in the first film are why he still finds himself in danger:
Pulled back into the fight when the Beekeeper organization goes rogue and sets its sights on controlling the government, Clay must take on the very group that made him.
Since this movie seems as though it will be giving us exactly what we want, our only hope is that somehow Clay ends up working with Pom Klementieff instead of having to fight her. That way she can return for The Beekeeper 3.
The film comes from director Timo Tjahjanto. It will also mark the return of Jeremy Irons. And Emmy Raver-Lampman is also back as Agent Verona Parker.
Between those four we don’t like the odds for the other Beekeepers. They might be great at what they do, but only one truly knows what it takes to protect the hive. And Jason Statham will do that when The Beekeeper 2 premieres in theaters on January 15.
