Alyson Hannigan, who played the nerdy witch Willow Rosenberg on seven seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, has clearly not forgotten her Sunnydale roots. Via Entertainment Weekly, we learned that the former How I Met Your Mother and American Pie star revealed that she uses several props from the series to make a spooky graveyard at her home for Halloween season. She even gave a little graveyard tour of her lawn via Instagram, which you can watch down below. We’re fairly certain that hardcore Buffy fans will recognize some of these iconic headstones from the show.
Alyson Hannigan, who is married to her former Buffy co-star Alexis Denisof, said in the video that “One of the benefits of being on Buffy the Vampire Slayer was that set dec gave me a bunch of Halloween stuff. They used to loan me things for Halloween, and then when the show was over, they were like, ‘Just take it all.’” Buffy the Vampire Slayer ended its seven season run in 2003, meaning Hannigan has had all these cool graveyard props in her yard for 23 years now. And they look pretty well taken care of, we must say. One item, a skeleton coming out of a coffin, actually dates back to season one, so it’s 30 years old.
Nerdist’s Take: Seeing Alyson Hannigan in a Sunnydale Graveyard Made Us Even More Bummed We Were Robbed of a Buffy Reboot
In her video, Hannigan said that she didn’t know where one particular item, a metal and wood cross, originated from. She suspected that loyal Buffy fans out there would know, however. She said in the video, “You guys tell me. I bet you can tell me when you’ve seen this.” And very quickly, the fans let her know the cross in question is from an iconic season seven episode. It’s from “Beneath You,” where Spike (James Marsters) drapes his shirtless torso on it and burns. Seeing Hannigan next to those props sure makes us sad all over again that Hulu canceled that Buffy reboot. We all just wanted to see Willow and Buffy reunite and battle evil one more time. Is that too much to ask? But at least Alyson Hannigan is keeping the Buffy spirit alive at home.
