Ben Affleck Calls JUSTICE LEAGUE His Career Low Point Eric Diaz | usagoldmines.com

Ben Affleck’s career has had many ups and downs over the years. He won several Oscars, but his personal life turned into tabloid fodder for decades. And then, he became several memes. But according to the former Batman, Affleck considers the lowest point of his career the reshoots for the ill-fated Justice League film back in 2017. That’s saying quite a lot, as this man made Gigli. Here’s what he told Josh Horowitz of the Happy Sad Confused podcast, via Deadline:

The truth is, the experience of Justice League was so, so negative for lots of different reasons. Some of which having to do with where I was personally, some of which having to do with the tragedy that happened during the time, and also the fact that I really saw how not to make a movie like that when the studio is at odds with the filmmaker. You’re really making a mistake. That was what really doomed that.

Warner Bros.

Warner Bros. designed Justice League as its answer to Marvel’s Avengers. And it went into production weeks after Batman v. Superman hit theaters. But the reaction to BvS became toxic, and Snyder’s film hit a box office wall after a huge opening weekend. Not long after, Zack Snyder began production on Justice League. But it was clear Warner Bros. knew whatever Snyder was doing was not the tone they wanted. After the tragic passing of Snyder’s daughter, Warner Bros. replaced Snyder with Joss Whedon. By all accounts, that went disastrously, with director and cast not getting along at all.

Nerdist’s Take: Justice League Slowly Unraveled the Entire DCEU, and Its Production Will Make for a Fascinating Book One Day

Justice League came out in 2017, and what Warner Bros. hoped might become the biggest superhero movie of all time barely cracked $200 million at the domestic box office. It killed the DCEU’s momentum, and killed Ben Affleck’s plans for a Batman solo film. And ultimately, it killed Joss Whedon’s career when the cast spoke out against him and his allegedly abusive actions during the reshoots years later. It seems that all these years later, the Justice League experience remains a bitter memory for Affleck. We imagine that someday, someone is going to write a book about this era of DC, and when they do, we can’t wait to read it.
