Critters, this news is for you! Critical Role is set to co-produce an original game through a partnership with indie game studio Lichthund to create Rockbeasts. Set in an alternative ’90s America, players become the manager of a struggling grunge band. Players take control of a group of gifted misfits attempting to succeed in the music industry without losing what initially brought them together. Blending narrative role-playing systems with interactive band management and rhythm-based performance gameplay, this anthropomorphic animal sim seems like a great time.

In addition to managing scarce resources and band dynamics, players complete quests, create setlists and take the stage. Each performance has the potential to either gain new admirers and opportunities or damage the band’s reputation and morale.
Rockbeasts is more than picking out music. “It’s character-driven, funny and emotional, and the choices players make truly shape the band and their relationships,” SVP of Business and Content Development, Ben Van Der Fluit, told Polygon.
The voice cast involved in Critical Role’s first game, Dispatch with AdHoc Studios brings the hardcore musicians to life. Critical Role co-founders Laura Bailey, Matthew Mercer, Marisha Ray, Sam Riegel, Liam O’Brien, Ashley Johnson, and Travis Willingham will return. The “Godfather of Punk,” Grammy Award winner Iggy Pop, will also make an appearance, though it’s unclear what role he will play.

“We’ve always seen Rockbeasts as an idea that deserves the full stadium treatment. Critical Role is helping us deliver it,” said Bartek Pieczonka, Creative Director, Lichtund. “The creative chemistry is already loud and clear, and it’ll bring the game to the players it will resonate with the most.”
Considering Dispatch sold more than 1 million copies in ten days, expectations are high for Critical Role‘s next video game endeavor. Rockbeasts will launch in 2027. Excited players can add the game to their Steam wishlist now.
