The world of RoboCop is getting a reboot again, this time with Prime Video in the form of a series. While many weren’t sure that it would actually happen, there is quite a bit of forward progress happening. Prime Video’s RoboCop has Peter Ocko at its helm as the showrunner, executive producer, and writer in collaboration with James Wan and Blumhouse Atomic Monster. And now we have a leading man for this show. Dan Stevens will star as Alex Murphy aka RoboCop in Prime Video’s series, which will have eight episodes in its first season.
This role was famously played by Peter Weller in the original film. Here’s a bit more about what we can expect in this upcoming series:
In RoboCop, a giant tech conglomerate convinces the city to place a powerful robot on its police force – a robot implanted with the consciousness of a beloved, fallen officer.
Yep, that sounds very close to what we have seen before with this franchise. And, to be honest, it feels even more unsettling now considering the social and technological climate we are now in. Right now, there’s no release date for this show, so it will be a while before we see Dan Stevens as RoboCop onscreen.
Stevens is pretty darn busy with projects like Dexter: Resurrection season two, A24’s Onslaught, and Godzilla x Kong: Supernova on the horizon. We will have to wait and see what he brings to this role and if Prime Video can finally give fans an adaptation that will honor the original RoboCop film.
