Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift is the new roller coaster coming to Universal Studios Hollywood. We love it. We’re obsessed with it. We should have seen it coming. Fast & Furious Hollywood Drift will mark the first-ever high-speed outdoor roller coaster for Universal Studios Hollywood. And we guess it makes sense to base it off a franchise as high-speed as Fast & Furious. Here’s what Universal Studios shared about the new Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift coaster, coming on September 16.
According to a release from Universal Studios, Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift will “elevate the guest experience with innovative and technological achievements never previously employed in a roller coaster.” Sounds exciting. The new Fast & Furious roller coaster will also have a cutting-edge ride system that is “being uniquely designed to immerse guests within the high-speed Fast & Furious universe. Highlights will include groundbreaking 360-degree rotation of the individual ride vehicles as they rocket along an elaborate track meticulously constructed with sound reduction technology for a breathtaking, superior experience.”
That does sound fast-paced… Here are additional details about what to expect from the Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift ride:
A unique dual-launching, split-ride track will alternate trains from dispatch to propel guests on an epic adventure that will take them over and under portions of the multilevel Starway escalator, through four spectacular launches, an exciting inverted dive loop, twisted pretzel loop and inverted stall, among others, at speeds of up to 72 MPH and a force of up to 3.6 Gs along 4,100 feet of elaborate aerial track constructed with sound-reduction technology while drifting at 360-degrees in their individual ride vehicles.
Thrill seekers will begin their journey lap-bar harnessed into one of four iconic Fast Saga ride vehicles—the Dodge Charger, Mazda RX-7, Nissan Skyline GT-R and the Toyota Supra—each modeled after the cars driven by favorite Fast characters in the film series. The arrival platform will be anchored by an all-original, large-scale mural created by world-renowned artist Tristan Eaton, which depicts the finale street racing action scene in the very first Fast film, 2001’s The Fast and the Furious, with a montage of the aerial-bound Dodge Charger and Toyota Supra vehicles racing against a speeding train. Another inspirational Tristan Eaton mural will be featured within the queue in tribute to the entire film franchise.
According to Deadline, the new Fast & Furious roller coaster will be located “on the Upper Lot of Universal Studios Hollywood. Guests will queue up within a large, red brick, garage-style structure before getting into the ride vehicles, modeled after several cars featured in the films before catapulting along an aerial track that winds its way over the theme park.”
Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift will open on September 16, 2026. So, start your engines. We can’t wait to see what this new coaster has in store for us.
