Florida Bank Teller Accused of Draining $18,657 From Customer Accounts and Cash Drawer Daily Hodl Agent | usagoldmines.com

A Florida bank teller has been accused of draining $18,657 from customer accounts and his cash drawer.

Jonathan Escobar, 36, faces charges of third-degree grand theft and organized fraud of $20,000 or less after an audit at the branch on Miami Lakes Drive, reports CBS News Miami.

First Horizon Bank staff found about $7,657 missing from Escobar’s cash drawer during a review.

A further audit showed he cashed 11 Western Union money orders with a $10 face value for $1,000 each against unsuspecting customers’ accounts.

When Escobar returned to the branch, investigators say they found six more $10 money orders on him before a meeting with human resources and a bank investigator.

According to the arrest report, Escobar admitted to cashing the altered money orders against customer accounts, taking cash from his drawer for personal use and falsely reporting that his drawer balanced.

Surveillance footage is cited as evidence in the case.

Escobar was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center and held for a bond hearing.
