As a part of today’s big Samsung launch, Google brought out a couple of big announcements of its own, which of course, are tied to Samsung’s new foldable phones, like the Galaxy Z Fold 8. Google is launching Gemini Intelligence, fully introducing Gemini Notebook, and they have new designs to show off for their upcoming smart glasses.
Gemini Intelligence wider rollout
With Gemini Intelligence, the goal is to be able to hand Gemini your digital chores and then do more things you enjoy doing, while it takes care of the rest in the background.
Thanks to this wider launch on the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip 8, the early simple task automation of Gemini Intelligence is expanding to 40 popular apps.
What kinds of things are we talking about here? We previously suggested examples like booking your seat in a spin class, looking through a syllabus in Gmail and then finding all of the books you need for it, reading a grocery list in Keep and then adding everything to a shopping cart, or looking at a photo of a brochure and then booking that activity for you. Again, this is all happening digitally, so you would have to think of tasks that might take multiple steps or apps and then deciding if you want Gemini to attempt to complete it for you.
When you run a task like this in Gemini Intelligence, it performs the task in the background and lets you see progress as it happens. You can even jump into that progress and make changes or add personal touches.
Gemini Notebook is here
You’ve heard of NotebookLM? It’s now called Gemini Notebook, probably because NotebookLM was such a nerdy, AI-bro name. Gemini Notebook is nicer!
This new Gemini Notebook version is pre-installed on Samsung’s new foldables, like the Galaxy Z Fold 8.
For those who haven’t used it before, Gemini Notebook can be used to capture your thinking, help you research, create slide decks or videos or flash cards or quizzes, or…a podcast. It’s sort of like a notebook for all of your AI tasks.
As a part of this Galaxy foldable launch, new owners of the Fold 8 Ultra, Fold 8, and Z Flip 8 will get a 6-month free trial of Google AI Pro to be able to utilize Gemini Notebook.
New Gemini-powered smart glasses designs
Finally, while we know that Google and Samsung and their eyewear partners are going to ship their first Android XR smart glasses this fall, they brought out some new designs today to try to get you excited.
