New ALIEN Film Has a Screenwriter, Not a ROMULUS Sequel Eric Diaz | usagoldmines.com

Ridley Scott is returning to the world he created in 1979, as the esteemed director is coming back to the world of Alien. Although this time, it seems the 89-year-old Scott will only be producing, not directing. According to The Hollywood Reporter, screenwriter Aaron Guzikowski, who wrote Denis Villeneuve’s Prisoners, will write the screenplay for a new Alien project for 20th Century Studios. Guzikowski worked with Ridley Scott before, as he created the HBO Max series Raised by Wolves, which Scott directed the first two episodes of. This will connect to Scott’s last two Alien-verse features, 2012’s Prometheus and 2017’s Alien: Covenant.

What seems most interesting is that this is not a sequel to, or connected to, the much-liked Alien: Romulus. Originally meant to be a straight-to-streaming film, Romulus was released to much critical and commercial success. Far more than Covenant, which put the franchise on ice for several years. Twentieth Century Studios announced a sequel for Romulus, but we’ve heard nothing about it for some time now. It’s quite possible this new Alien film is effectively replacing it. This also doesn’t seem to conflict with Alien: Earth on Hulu in any way, which is currently shooting its second season.

Nerdist’s Take: We Hope There’s Room for Scott’s Alien film, and a Proper Sequel to Alien: Romulus

The connective tissue between Prometheus and Covenant is the android character David, played by Michael Fassbender. The report says he’s not currently attached. However, he seems to be the one character who needs to come back. Covenant ended on a rather grim cliffhanger involving David, which they have not addressed again in ten years. Could this new film finally reveal what happened to him? And would it finally connect Ridley Scott’s last two films to the original Alien? Hopefully, loyal xenomorph fans can get this film and a follow-up to Romulus at some point. There’s room in the Alien timeline for all of these stories to take place.
