Back in 2024, Osgood Perkins’ Longlegs became the surprise indie horror hit of the year. Featuring a truly unhinged performance from Nicolas Cage, Longlegs had Satan-worshipping serial killers, creepy dolls, demonic forces, psychic FBI agents, the works. Now, Perkins and Cage are expanding the Longlegs universe in a new movie. But don’t get confused: this new movie is not an actual Longlegs sequel; instead, it is a movie that is set in the universe of Longlegs. Here’s what we know.

This new film isn’t coming from Neon, the indie studio behind the original, but instead, Paramount has acquired the rights. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the plans for this new film were bigger than what is standard for a Neon budget, and they pulled out of participating. Perkins will once again write, direct, and produce this new Longlegs movie.
Longlegs was a massive success two years ago, earning $128 million worldwide on a budget of less than $10 million. It very quickly became Neon’s highest-grossing domestic release, propelled by significant word of mouth from the horror fandom. And it’s really the film that put Osgood Perkins on the map as the horror director of the moment. But what could a follow-up Longlegs film entail, especially as it’s not a proper sequel? Could Nicolas Cage be returning as another character, instead of Satanic serial killer Dale Ferdinand Kobble? It’s possible that they go the route of The Black Phone franchise, and turn him into a ghost/dream sort of killer.
Since Oz Perkins’ Longlegs, he’s directed a string of successful horror movies, including The Monkey and Keeper. He also just wrapped production of The Young People, starring Nicole Kidman. That’s a lot for two years. Will Longlegs become his first franchise? Paramount already has several money-making horror franchises, including Scream and Smile. But since horror often makes several times its budget when successful, you can see how Paramount’s new owners, Skydance, would want another surefire horror series. We’ll have to see what form this takes when cameras start rolling on this new Longlegs continuation.
