Ripple (XRP) Price: Token Gains 5% Despite $430 Million Rise in Short Selling Maisie Morrison | usagoldmines.com

TLDR

  • XRP rose about 5% between September 16 and September 27 despite heavy selling pressure.
  • Net selling volume grew by about $430 million, with the Cumulative Volume Delta reaching about negative $2.70 billion.
  • Binance traders’ selling volume moved from negative $1.0 billion to about negative $1.2 billion.
  • Spot investors pulled $60.33 million in XRP from exchanges over the past seven days.
  • The Funding Rate stayed positive, rising from 0.0062 to 0.0081.

XRP has gained value over the past two weeks, even as data shows heavy selling pressure from traders. The price rose about 5% between September 16 and September 27.

At the same time, more traders have been betting against the asset. Much of this activity has come from traders on Binance.

The figures come from data platforms CryptoQuant and CoinGlass, as reported by AMBCrypto on September 29, 2026.

Selling Pressure Builds in the XRP Market

One measure of this selling is the Cumulative Volume Delta, or CVD. It tracks the difference between buying and selling volume over time.

Between September 16 and September 27, the CVD fell from negative $2.27 billion to about negative $2.70 billion. That means net selling volume grew by about $430 million.

Binance traders played a role in this change. Their exchange volume moved from negative $1.0 billion to about negative $1.2 billion over the same period.

A negative CVD means sellers have been more active than buyers. Even so, the price of XRP did not drop during this stretch.

Spot Buyers Move Coins Off Exchanges

Spot investors appear to be a key reason the price has held up. These traders buy the actual asset rather than betting on its price through contracts.

CoinGlass tracks Spot netflow, which shows how much of an asset moves into and out of exchanges. Recently, more XRP has left exchanges than entered them.

When coins leave exchanges, investors are often moving them to private wallets. This usually means they plan to hold for a longer time.

Over the past seven days, net outflows totaled negative $60.33 million. This buying has helped absorb much of the selling pressure from the perpetual futures market.

Perpetual futures are contracts that let traders bet on price moves without an end date. They are where most of the recent short selling has taken place.

Another factor supporting the price is the Funding Rate. This is a fee paid between traders holding long and short positions in the perpetual market.

Since September 16, the Funding Rate for XRP has stayed positive. It rose from 0.0062 to 0.0081 during that time, based on CryptoQuant data.

A positive Funding Rate means more perpetual traders are betting the price will go up. These are known as long positions.

According to the report, XRP could keep its upward trend if Spot buying continues and the Funding Rate stays positive without overheating.

As of press time, the latest data showed $17.11 million in net XRP outflows from exchanges over the past 24 hours.
