Best Prices Today: iRobot Roomba Max 715 Vac
Robot vacuums have gotten awfully ambitious since iRobot introduced the first Roomba. Many now mop floors, wash and dry their own mop pads, and even include special hardware to climb over thresholds. But iRobot is betting there’s still value in a robot vacuum that just vacuums. The Max 715 pairs powerful suction with a small auto-empty dock and plenty of smart navigation tech to make a strong case for keeping things simple.
Roomba Max 715 Vac: Design and features
The Roomba Max 715 is a standard circular robot vacuum, measuring about 13.6 inches across and 4.1 inches tall, with a black body and a clean, understated finish. Underneath are two counter-rotating rubber brushes that flex to maintain contact with the floor. Unlike conventional bristle rollers, they’re designed to collect hair without winding it tightly around the brushes. An anti-tangle side brush sweeps debris away from walls and into the robot’s path. iRobot rates the Max 715 at 30,000 Pa of suction power, with Carpet Boost automatically increasing suction when the robot encounters carpeting.

LiDAR navigation allows the robot to map your home’s layout for more efficient cleaning, while AI obstacle detection helps avoid everyday obstacles such as shoes, charging cables, and pet toys. iRobot’s Dirt Detect technology is also on board to identify areas with more concentrated dirt and make additional passes to clean them.
With so many multi-function docks now the size of a dorm-room refrigerator, the Max 715’s accompanying AutoEmpty dock is a welcome change, measuring a compact 11.4 x 6.8 x 8.4 inches (HWD). It automatically transfers debris from the robot into a disposable dust bag, which iRobot says can hold up to 90 days’ worth of dirt.
The Roomba Home app offers scheduling, room-specific cleaning, and no-go zones. Its Smart Clean feature goes further, using information about your household and cleaning history to recommend settings and prioritize rooms that need more attention. You can also create custom routines for recurring cleaning jobs.
Roomba Max 715 Vac: Setup and performance
The Roomba Home app walked me through connecting the robot to Wi-Fi and checking for software updates. It also asked how many adults, children, and shedding pets live in my home. My answers—three or more adults and three or more shedding pets—prompted the app to classify it as a high-activity household and recommend more frequent cleaning with stronger suction settings.

The Max 715 first did a mapping run of my home without vacuuming, which it completed in about 13 minutes. The resulting map was mostly accurate, though I had to make a few adjustments. It treated my breakfast room and adjoining living room as a single space and also misidentified a couple of rooms that I had to rename. The app’s editing tools made those corrections fairly easy.
The early result of my testing were mixed. The Max 715 excelled at removing debris from the area rug in my living room but was consistently leaving a noticeable amount of it behind on my hard floors. Bumping the suction mode from Standard to Deep improved debris removal enough that I eventually turned on Smart mode, which automatically adjusts cleaning power according to your household needs and cleaning history. From there the Max 715 settled into a solid cleaning groove.
The Max 715 generally navigated around furniture and larger obstacles without trouble, but seemed to struggle with smaller objects. It tried to push through shoes and a stack of books and magazines I’d left on the floor. It even chewed up a couple of magazines while attempting to climb over them. Sure, decluttering beforehand would help, but that’s not always possible in a busy household. I was disappointed to see its AI-powered obstacle avoidance struggle with the everyday clutter it’s designed to recognize.
The Roomba Home app makes operating the robot and managing cleaning history straightforward. Before vacuuming, you can choose which rooms to clean and in what order, then follow the robot’s progress through the app. If a room isn’t accessible because, say, someone closed the door, the app marks the room “Area Unreachable,” and the robot moves on to the next one. Live Activities also let me check the vacuum’s progress and pause cleaning directly from my iPhone’s Lock Screen.

The Roomba Home app lets you monitor cleaning progress, customize room-by-room cleaning routines, and track when maintenance parts need replacing.

After completing each job, the Max 715 returned to its dock and automatically emptied its dustbin without any intervention. The process worked as expected, though the emptying cycle was surprisingly loud. Despite the dock’s small size, it made as much noise as the much larger self-emptying stations I’ve tested.
Should you buy the Roomba Max 715 Vac?
At $699.99, the Roomba Max 715 Vac offers a more affordable alternative to premium vacuum-mop hybrids with multifunction docks, some of which can cost twice as much. It’s an even better value at its current $499.99 sale price.
If mopping isn’t a priority, it’s a solid choice for households that want capable automated vacuuming without paying for features they won’t use. Its imperfect obstacle avoidance means you may need to be vigilant about picking up clutter before cleaning, but that’s a reasonable trade-off for the savings.
