Many Marvel fans were crossing their fingers that the Avengers: Doomsday trailer shown at CinemaCon would arrive online soon, and then nothing happened. But now, we have a new sign of hope. Doomsday and Secret Wars directors, the Russo Brothers, have released a new image via their Instagram account announcing that something Doomsday-related is on its way on June 2. This was released along with SXSW London. The news comes accompanied by a striking image of what appears to be Doctor Doom’s infamous mask, surrounded by a red circle.
This image comes attached to a hashtag that says #DomLatveria. Latveria, of course, is Victor von Doom’s home country, which he rules. But what is the “Dom” all about? And the red circle? We have some theories. First off, the image gives a London address, along with “Starts June 2nd at 10 am BST. Surprise at 2 pm BST.” Now, 2 pm BST aligns with 9 am EST, which is often when big trailers drop. Surely, not a coincidence. If it’s not a trailer, it’s probably a teaser for the trailer. Which is annoying, but Hollywood loves to do that these days.
The Russos also released the Doom logo, without the red circle. We can assume “Dom” is an abbreviation for the Latin “Dominus,” meaning lord or master. So, “Victor von Doom, Lord of Latveria.” It could also be short for the Latin “Domus,” meaning house, or “House of Latveria.” Or who knows, maybe it’s referencing Dom Toretto from the Fast and the Furious franchise. That’s our personal favorite theory.
Ok, all joking aside, the red circle could be a reference to none other than Wanda Maximoff, the Scarlet Witch. Yes, Elizabeth Olsen is not on the cast list. But we know more surprises are coming when it comes to the cast. And in the Marvel Comics series Young Avengers: The Children’s Crusade, Doom used Wanda’s formidable power to use himself. Could this be a hint toward that storyline? We’ll just have to wait and see. Avengers: Doomsday arrives in movie theaters on December 18, 2026.
