The Ethereum Foundation (EF), the non-profit organization that supports the development of the Ethereum blockchain, has made two new additions to its executive roster.
In a March 1st post, the organization announced Hsiao-Wei Wang and Tomasz Stańczak as co-Executive Directors, forming a new leadership structure. Their new engagements will take effect on 17 March.
Under the leadership of the new co-Executive Directors, the EF says it will ensure that Ethereum and its ecosystem grow and that that growth advances its core and foundational values. These include open source, security, privacy, and permissionless global collaboration.
The team added that the Ethereum ecosystem must navigate a “challenging transition” over the next few years. It is transforming from “an early-stage project serving a small number of enthusiasts [into] a robust permissionless censorship-resistant base layer of the global finance and software stack.”

Meanwhile, Wang possesses “insight” into Ethereum’s evolution, the announcement says, including its R&D process, the grassroots community, and application developers and builders.
Wang has served as a core researcher at the Ethereum Foundation for seven years, worked in many research areas of research, and was a key contributor to the Ethereum beacon chain. Furthermore, she has been a highly active community builder, organizing several major events with the Ethereum community in Taiwan.
At the same time, Stańczak comes from a development background as “a leader with proven results.” He has led the team building one of the largest execution clients, Nethermind. In this global company, he has established a talent recruitment and training channel and “a highly functional organization.”
He will stay involved in Nethermind but will no longer be the CEO. “With Tomasz’s expertise,” said the announcement, “we can create the same kind of engine [as in Nethermind] at the Ethereum Foundation.”
Less than a week ago, Aya Miyaguchi, the Foundation’s Executive Director since 2018, announced that she has moved into a new role, becoming the organization’s president.
“This new opportunity will allow me to continue supporting EF’s institutional relationships and to expand the reach of our vision and culture more broadly,” Miyaguchi wrote on 25 February.
The move came amidst wider criticism from the Ethereum community over her leadership and the Foundation’s direction.
In her blog post, Miyaguchi notes the “moments of tension” and debates that “arise over the network’s performance or ETH’s market value.” But these, she claims, prove that “Ethereum belongs to everyone precisely because it belongs to no one.”

And while many support Miyaguchi’s new role and the Foundation’s latest moves, others still criticize the announced developments and pose more questions about the novel structure.
Meanwhile, at the end of February, the EF said it would donate $1.25 million to the legal defense of Alexey Pertsev, a developer associated with the crypto-mixing platform Tornado Cash.
He was initially sentenced to 64 months in prison for money laundering in May 2024 in the Netherlands. Pertsev has been released under electronic monitoring. Read more below.
In the meantime, over the past 24 hours, the price of ETH went up 5.2%, currently standing at $2,356.
It is down 12% in a week, 27% in a month, and 31% in a year. ETH hit its all-time high of $4,878 in November 2021 and has decreased by 52% since. Its current market cap is $284.28 billion.
