Samsung Galaxy owners are having a bit of fun this week, showcasing the creative ways they are keeping their devices chilled out during major Android updates. If you’re new to the concept, many phones (not just Galaxy phones) get pretty warm during software updates. Thinking it will help prevent some type of damage, even though the phones are certainly made to withstand OS updates, you just can’t underestimate the things people will do to protect their investments.
AC Chilled Updates
Placing your phone inside the AC unit while it updates isn’t the worst thing you could do. There are those who argue that this has the possibility of introducing condensation inside of the device, but the odds of that seem low. There are wireless chargers that actively cool devices when charging in a similar fashion, so we expect this to be relatively safe for the phone.
There are always next-level options. Such as below, where someone placed their phone inside of a plastic bag and then dunked it into a tank of water during the update. This seems overkill, but still, very funny.
Water Cooled Updates
Takeaway: We want to go on record and say that actively taking steps to minimize heat from the device during updates is not necessary. Operating the device outside of manufacturer guidelines is a good way for things to go wrong and could even affect your warranty status. I swear I’m not trying to sound like a bootlicker, but if your phone does somehow destroy itself during an update, that’s on Samsung (or any other OEM) and not you.
