Video Game Giant Hit by Breach Affecting 11,774,247 Records – Email Addresses and Login Data at Risk Daily Hodl Agent | usagoldmines.com

A Japanese video game giant says an unauthorized third party has accessed more than 11.7 million records tied to its online account service.

Capcom says the incident hit 11,774,247 Capcom ID records worldwide containing email addresses and account data such as creation dates, last login times, number of logins and the IP address used for the last login.

Capcom ID is the company’s account service, which players need to play certain Capcom games online.

Of those records, 43 also contained dates of birth, genders, countries or regions and nicknames.

The company says some accounts also had their passwords changed.

Says Capcom,

“Capcom has not confirmed any compromise of CAPCOM ID account login passwords originally set by customers themselves. However, the company has confirmed that passwords were changed without authorization on 196 accounts. “

Those passwords have been reset.

In an update, Capcom says the intruder also accessed the e-Capcom online store pages of 19 of those accounts in Japan, affecting names, phone numbers, addresses, dates of birth and purchase histories.

Credit card information was not affected.

Capcom says it spotted the suspicious activity on October 19th and began blocking it the same day.

It reported the incident to the Osaka Prefectural Police and Japan’s Personal Information Protection Commission on October 21st.

The company says its games and other services remain available and it will contact affected customers.

It is warning users to watch for fake emails or messages pretending to be from Capcom.

“If you receive any suspicious email or message, please exercise caution and refrain from accessing any URLs contained therein or opening any attached files.”
