In March of 2026, MCU fans got a pleasant surprise when Disney renewed Wonder Man for season two. Then in June, out of nowhere, viewers got a much bigger, much worse surprise. Marvel unexpectedly announced it had canceled the show. The abrupt renewal reversal for a critically-acclaimed show didn’t seem to make any sense. Wonder Man had even been nominated for an Emmy. Why the big change just a few months later? The series showrunner and co-creator Andrew Guest doesn’t know either. He posted a video addressing fan support, rumors, and speculation. Guest also shared just how much work had already been done on Wonder Man season two before this shocking news. And it’s clear he’s just as confused and disappointed as everyone else.
Destin Daniel Cretton’s Schedule Had Nothing to Do with Wonder Man‘s Cancellation
Disney’s weird/upsetting cancellation of Wonder Man season two is “not a stunt” according to Guest, who says he’s been “listening” to fan support and concerns. He also confirmed there is no movie in the works and that co-creator and Spider-Man: Brand New Day director Destin Daniel Cretton’s schedule was not an issue. That’s because a second season of Wonder Man was not only approved, it was on the verge of really getting going. “Contracts were signed” for all the show’s stars, schedules were cleared, and the writers’ room was set to start this month. Production on Wonder Man season two was going to begin early next year. Guest had even written the first episode and had an outline for the rest of the season. He said everyone “felt really good” about the plan for Wonder Man season two.
So Why Was Wonder Man Season 2 Canceled?
So seriously, what the heck happened to make Disney/Marvel Studios cancel Wonder Man before season two could become a reality? Guest, who sounded more disappointed and confused than bitter, says he isn’t privy to any “numbers.” All he could offer up was the obvious. He said Disney and Marvel made a decision internally. A second season apparently worked for both parties a couple of months ago. Then it didn’t.
Like with almost everything, the truth, whatever the specifics may be, comes down to “money.” It seems impossible that Disney and Marvel would have reversed course on the show if they expected to turn a profit on a second season.

But if Guest gets the one thing he wants that is still possible, this cancellation will look even worse. He hopes Emmy voters recognized the work Yahya Abdul-Mateen II did on Wonder Man. We do, too. And maybe if they do, we’ll eventually get Wonder Man season two, too.
