Mike Schur and Amy Poehler have what you call a “proven track record” when it comes to making TV together. The two previously partnered on Parks and Recreation, a show where Leslie Knope did the impossible and made us believe in a politician. But in their next foray, she’ll be trying to do something very different. She’s not going to try and stay above the fray of dirty politics. She’s going to get dirty looking for glory and fame in DIG. And the series’ first trailer shows why the world of archeology can be a lot more cutthroat than local government.
DIG comes from co-showrunners Schur and J.J. Philbin, though Schur co-created the series with Poehler herself. All three also serves as executive producers on a show that will combine the horrors of teaching with the horror of working for an old white man who won’t go away. Here’s the series’ official synopsis from Peacock.
DIG follows a team of dedicated archaeologists (and less-dedicated college students) who spend their summer working on a dig site in Greece. Their discovery of a rare artifact sends them on the adventure of a lifetime.
DIG also stars Hugh Laurie, Geraldine Viswanathan, Antonia Thomas, and Fina Strazza. Season one will also feature guest appearance from Kayvan Novak, Jon Pointing, Bonita Friedericy, Jason Mantzoukas, and Brennan Lee Mulligan.
For anyone excited to dig into DIG you’ll be able to go as deep as you want on November 23. That’s when all ten episodes from season one will premiere on Peacock.
Will it come anywhere close to living up to the expectations we naturally have for a Mike Schur show starring Amy Poehler? This isn’t exactly the funniest trailer we’ve ever seen, but it doesn’t matter. Not when those two already have a track record this proven already.
