First MAGIC: THE GATHERING | STAR TREK Secret Lair Drops Revealed Jess Harshbarger | usagoldmines.com

New Secret Lairs never seem to stop dropping! This time, it’s a Star Trek Secret Lair Magic card Superdrop. Wizards of the Coast has six total drops planned, and debuted five of them on October 27th. This Superdrop, like the set itself, explores many different sides of Star Trek in Magic card form. Whether it’s the cartoonish Lower Decks or beautiful full-art basic lands inspired by Strange New Worlds, this series of drops is off to explore the universe of Star Trek, from 1966 to 2026. To me, the most stunning of the Secret Lair drops are those Star Trek Strange New Worlds cards I just mentioned. They capture the imagination, and they are absolutely stunning to look at. I particularly treasure full-art basic lands (I may have a pile of them myself…) and these do not disappoint.

For fans of the Wrath of Khan (or the Wrath of KHAAAAAAAAN! if you prefer), today is your lucky day. We get a whole drop of Secret Lair Magic cards dedicated to the 1982 film, with some impressive art to go with it. These Star Trek cards are a mix of reskins of already existing Magic: The Gathering cards, and some entirely new cards. The highlight for me is the well-chosen quotes at the bottom of each card, highlighting some of Khan’s best quotes from the film. Even if he did steal one from Herman Melville.

This Secret Lair Superdrop isn’t just going back in time, though, oh no. As aforementioned, Star Trek‘s only modern cartoon outing, Star Trek: Lower Decks, is making an appearance in these Magic cards as well. Almost all creature cards featuring main characters, this particular drop oozes personality, just like the show itself.

We have Brad Boimler, Citing Protocol which is so entirely appropriate, we’ve got Beckett Mariner in a bar fight, Sam Rutherford angsting with a reflection of his past self, and Tendi being tender with The Dog.

Also, I must say, there’s no better time to break out the Klingon, folks. Wizards is putting out a Secret Lair Star Trek drop that is all Klingon cards—the red meta is looking fierce for Magic: The Gathering | Star Trek—and they’re being released in both English AND Klingon. Bring some to your LGS and flex your alien language skills if you dare.

Finally, we have the ‘Beam Me Up’ Secret Lair Star Trek Magic card drop—an ode to transporters (and the engineers who run them) saving the asses of away teams for literal centuries. The set features some familiar faces from TOS getting beamed up, swept out of danger after a communicator call of “Beam us up!” Whether it’s Scottie, O’Brien, or somebody else doing said beaming, the sight of the familiar face in the transporter room is often the greatest source of relief for Starfleet officers. Check out these befores and afters, which underline the point.

You’ll know when we do what Drop 6 is all about, but for now, we’re busy looking at this lovely batch of Star Trek Magic cards that will be available on November 9th. You can grab each individual drop for $29.99 on the Secret Lair website, or go for it in foil for $39.99 each. And, for every $199 spent, you get a foil copy of the Star Trek re-do of Return of the Wildspeaker, now called Transporter Boondoggle. We’ll leave on this adorable note: check out the puppies!

Two dogs sitting on a transporter platform. One, with a lion tail, looks very happy. The other dog, with a rhyno horn and spiked back, looks pretty unhappy.
