Android 17 Update Adds Quick Settings Layout Customization Kellen | usagoldmines.com

It’s no secret that Google’s Pixel phones lack many of the customization options that Samsung phones have. Even Apple’s iPhone has added more features in recent years that let you fully tweak areas like the Quick Settings panel. While Google may run the Android scene, their own Pixel software is almost always behind others when it comes to customization.

In the most recent Android 17 update for Pixel phones, Google is finally bringing one big change that we’ve needed. As a part of the Android 17 QPR2 Beta 3 that rolled out on Friday, Google has added a new Quick Settings layout changer. This first appearance of this feature is limited, but it does at least allow you to adjust the order of the Quick Settings area for things like your Quick Settings tiles, brightness slider, and media player.

To get started with this, when you swipe down your Quick Settings area on a Pixel phone, you’ll be able to tap on a new edit button that we’ve circled below.

That will take you to a new Quick Settings editor screen with one page that allows you to Edit the tiles in your Quick Settings, along with a new one called “Layout.” This Layout panel lets you adjust the layout of those options we talked about above, including media player, brightness slider, and where the tiles/shortcuts area lives.

At the moment, you can’t adjust the size of these areas, you can only re-arrange the order of them. The default setting is for brightness slider up top, tiles in the middle, and the media player at the bottom. However, you can now swap them all into a place that better serves your needs, like how I have brightness on the bottom now, making it so much easier to reach.

Since this is a part of Android 17 QPR2 Beta 3, not everyone can test or play with this just yet. If you’d like to, you can always join the Android Beta Program and start using this right away. Otherwise, it this feature isn’t expected to hit all Pixel phones until a stable release in December of this year.
