It was a really big day yesterday, even for those who don’t necessarily care about Apple products. The introduction of a foldable iPhone, called the iPhone Duo (funny name, btw), means a few things. First, phones that can fold in half are really expensive. But also, we could see accessory makers focus on things that can improve the ownership experience of these devices, so with foldable adoption now set to increase more than ever, it’s a good thing across the board.
We took a look at the internet as a whole over the past 24 hours and wanted to get a feeling for how Android users are responding/reacting to the iPhone Duo announcement. Are they going to make a switch? Do they think it’s silly? We genuinely want to know.
Naturally, we checked out our own comments section before making our way to places like reddit, YouTube, and X. Take a look at what folks are saying, then feel free to drop your own take if you haven’t already. And don’t worry, this is a safe place!
Android Owners React to iPhone Duo
Xious – I moved from 10 years of Pixels including 3 years of Pixel Folds to the Samsung Galaxy Fold 8. The weight and size is the biggest (and possibly only) reasons that it’s better. I love the design so much but really, really miss the Pixel software. Hopefully Pixel is taking notes.
Joe Fixit – The Duo looks nice, but it weighs even more than the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, and that phone was an unwieldy tank. I don’t want another brick in my pocket.
Steve – iPhone duo actually impressive. Well done, Apple.

Andrew P – Funny or not, like it or not, this iPhone folding phone will bring a new era to the folding industry just for being apple.
Hunter C – I think it’s overblown. Samsung has had some great foldables and people that absolutely wanted a foldable phone likely bought one. Apple is not infallible especially when it comes to first revision hardware and high price. Vision Pro isn’t a hit. iPhone Air isn’t a runaway hit. The iPhone Fold-O-Phone
may not be the huge success people are painting.
TurboFool – As a Pixel owner, who uses Android exclusively, and has never owned or intends to own an Apple product, I think it looks great, and I hope it lights a fire under everyone else’s butts to shore up all the small details that Apple focuses on.
Double_Link_8319 – The phone discriminates against lefties.

ShakeAndBakeThatCake – Overall the hardware looks excellent. Pricing is high as is expected and you won’t find any deals. At least with Samsung and Google you can find some amazing deals on hardware. Hopefully this pushes Samsung and Google to innovate more on hardware. But I wouldn’t say Apple hardware is anything groundbreaking even if it is slightly ahead of Google and Samsung folds now.
Minimum_Indication_1 – No one talking about thickness and bezels now I suppose. When Apple does it, that becomes the effing standard. I hate this industry.
the_devils_advocates – The thing I will have to mention is that because it allows use of the Apple pencil, that means the inner display must be pretty significantly sturdier than the other stuff out there right now.
The Takeaway: The difference between the approach to foldables starts right when you open the iPhone Duo. That gorgeous animation that Apple has when you open the device, and also when you close it, is absolutely stunning. It’s so Apple and immediately made me think, “Why did Google or Samsung not think of this?” Plus, it even has Apple Pencil support. That’s pretty awesome, right?
Beyond that, I don’t want to see anyone complain about the price. My money was on it costing around $2499, so the fact that it starts at just $1999 seems good. It’s very much on par with what we see from Android makers, and for Apple customers, it’s the perfect excuse to get one of those fancy metal Apple credit cards. It’s a total win-win in today’s economy.
If you end up buying one, we hope you love it! If you don’t care at all, rest easy knowing that no one is forcing you to even think about it. Let people like what they like. To each their own, all of that good stuff.
